Man electrocuted by do-it-yourself mole-killer 2 hours, 17 minutes ago BERLIN (Reuters) - A German retiree who wired up a high-voltage cable to try to wipe out the moles digging up his garden killed himself instead, police said Thursday. Uwe Werner, police spokesman in Stralsund north of Berlin, said the 63-year-old retired construction foreman was found dead in the garden of his weekend house in Zingst next to a 380-volt cable and metal spikes rammed into the ground. "The moles survived," Werner said, noting the voltage was enough to run a cement mixer or heavy-duty power saw. "It was in...

Murray, OCC build 'Caddyshack' motorcycle Thu Aug 3, 6:19 PM ET NEW YORK - Try to imagine the motorcycle that Bill Murray's classic "Caddyshack" character Carl Spackler would ride. Would it incorporate his love of greenskeeping, his hatred of gophers or his experiences as a "looper" for the Dalai Lama? Those were the sort of questions Murray and the guys of Orange County Choppers had to ask themselves in fashioning a bike in the spirit of the beloved Spackler. Their efforts can be seen on Monday's episode of "American Chopper" on the Discovery Channel (10 p.m. EDT), with a second...

Fighting back, Democratic Sen. John Kerry (website - news - bio) called President Bush (website - news - bio) "unfit to lead this nation" because of the war in Iraq and his record on jobs, health care and energy prices. He lashed out at the incumbent and Vice President Dick Cheney (website - news - bio) for avoiding service in the Vietnam War. "I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq," Kerry said in prepared remarks...

Forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong area, I am not new to FR but haven't posted much. A group of my friends are going on a golf trip. There are 12 golfers playing 4 rounds of golf as foursomes. I have been asked to come up with a schedule that has each golfer playing at least one round of golf with the other eleven golfers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  • Why is the Right afraid of a Military Draft? (ZOT!!! Troll plays with formerly unexploded bomb.)

Why is the Right afraid of imposing a military draft? The number of troops in Iraq is below what is clearly needed. Additionally, many troops have had second and third tours of duty. A tired and disillusioned force is dangerous for all concerned. The National Guard troops are in great need of relief. The training most have received is minimal, at best. If the War on Terrorism is such a threat to America and our way of life the implementation of a military draft makes the most sense. Many from the right and left have compared the "War on Terror"...

WASHINGTON - A group of John Kerry's fellow Navy veterans went thermonuclear on the candidate yesterday, calling him a vain, indecisive, cowardly "loose cannon" who didn't deserve his medals and only went to Vietnam so he could run for office. The new political group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, seeks to counter Kerry's "band of brothers" - veterans who served on his boat and campaign at his side. Kerry's camp dismissed the new group as Republican shills and noted they have links to a shadowy pro-Bush operation called Republicans for Clean Air that attacked Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2000....

DAMASCUS, Syria — Members of the Cham Golf & Country Club are the first to admit that golf remains something of a mystery to most Syrians. Hence a photocopied handout detailing the physical attributes of the only golf course in Syria includes a brief summary of the sport. "The principle of the Golf game is based on putting the ball in the hole," the English version reads in part. "The player begins from a specified place called (Tee) till the arrival of the ball to the (Green) in which the hole is located." This being the Middle East, statistics about...
