A man and woman who were allegedly fleeing a bank robbery were arrested in Bouctouche after they stopped at a Tim Horton's drive-thru. RCMP say several thousands of dollars was stolen from a Royal Bank during the heist Monday afternoon in eastern New Brunswick, but the money has since been recovered. The man, who was on parole at the time, is expected to face charges of robbery and disguise with intent in Moncton provincial court this afternoon, RCMP said. The woman is scheduled to appear in court on May 8. Royal Bank employees called police shortly after 4 p.m. on...

Environmentalists are targeting your hamburgers and buffalo wings with a “Meat Tax.” And they claim they have “never been closer to a meat tax.” As reported by Bloomberg Law: Hamburger addicts, barbecue junkies, and fried chicken fanatics may soon be asked to pay a surcharge for their obsessions with meat. Excise taxes on beef, pork, and chicken could be the next big thing in a state and local tax environment that’s already comfortable with “sin tax” regimes aimed at cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, and gambling and is adapting quickly to special levies on sugar-sweetened beverages, greenhouse gases, and marijuana. While there...

Pedophilia is considered to be the most taboo issue in the world. For obvious reasons, those who are known pedophiles live with a huge stigma attached to them. Many of them struggle with pedophilic impulses but don’t act on them - and they have been the subject of much media attention, scientific attention, and psychiatric attention as well.

Rudolf Flesch, in his 1955 book, noted that "things have changed in the last 10, 20 years. For the first time in history, American parents see their children getting less education than they got themselves. Their sons and daughters come home from school and they can't read the newspaper; they can't spell simple words like February or Wednesday; they don't know the difference between Austria and Australia. The fathers and mothers don't know the reason for this, but they know that something terrible has happened to their most precious dreams and aspirations[.]" Isn't it beautiful – the way Flesch perceives...

Charles Schulz insisted on one core purpose: A ...Charlie Brown Christmas had to be about something. Namely, the true meaning of Christmas. Otherwise, Schulz said, “Why bother doing it?” To Coca-Cola’s credit, Mendelson says, the corporate sponsor never balked at the idea of including New Testament passages. The result — Linus’s reading from the Book of Luke about the meaning of the season — became “the most magical two minutes in all of TV animation,” the producer says....

He has been serving a 25-year sentence for human rights abuses and corruption..... He was admired by some Peruvians for combating Maoist rebels, whereas his critics consider him a corrupt dictator. Fujimori has been in and out of hospital for a variety of health problems in...

Racing to reverse the country's economic spiral, President Barack Obama signed the mammoth stimulus package into law Tuesday and readied a new $50 billion foreclosure rescue for legions of Americans who are in danger of losing their homes. There was no recovery yet for beleaguered automakers, who were back in Washington for more bailout billions. General Motors Corp. said it was closing plants, Chrysler LLC said it was cutting vehicle models and both said they were getting rid of thousands more jobs as they made their restructuring cases for $5 billion more for Chrysler and as much as $16.6 billion...

After the events of the last few weeks – Matt Luke hired as coach, the NCAA sanctions handed down, players stating that they wanted to transfer, etc – I wanted to dig into what all is happening. German police descended on a Christmas market in Berlin after two bags of bullets were found under a nearby mosque last night. About 200 rounds of ammunition was found in an underground car park in West Berlin - but officers quickly ruled out any terror link. The discovery came with Germany still on high alert after a wave of terror attacks and almost a year after a jihadist killed 12 by crashing a lorry through a market in the city.

Environmental scientists are urging lawmakers around the world to ban glitter from being used in art supplies because of the damage glitter particles do to the environment. Scientists are particularly concerned that the plastic particles that make up glitter would pollute the environment and poison the animals who eat from it, CBS Philadelphia reported. Dr. Trisia Farrelly, an environmental anthropologist at Massey University in New Zealand, says she wants to see glitter banned because of the damage it does to the ecosystem. “I think all glitter should be banned because it’s microplastic,” she said.

The NFL and a group of players reached an agreement in principle late Wednesday night to partner on a plan to address social justice issues considered important to African-American communities, ESPN has learned. The unprecedented agreement calls for the league to contribute nearly $100 million over seven years to projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education. During a conference call Wednesday night, Malcolm Jenkins and Anquan Boldin, who lead roughly 40 players who have negotiated with the league office about demonstrations during the national anthem, guided the group through the highlights of the package, which represents...

Proponents of the self-driving car revolution might have preferred that what happened in Vegas on Wednesday stayed in Vegas. But as a reluctant public mulls a future of robotic vehicles, any hiccup along the way is sure to make headlines. The latest fodder for critics came from Sin City, where a driverless shuttle, apparently through no fault of its own, got into a fender bender with a semi-truck just hours after its debut, according to local news reports. “The shuttle did what it was supposed to do, in that it’s sensors registered the truck and the shuttle stopped to avoid...

“A large Christian cross image, formed by sunlight, for many years has appeared, then disappeared and vice versa on a 368 meter tall communications tower in the middle of Berlin, Germany. The tower is the Fernsehturm TV Tower built between 1965 and 1969 by the German Democratic government-Communist in East Germany. When the sun shines on the Fernsehturm’s titled stainless steel dome, an image of a Christian cross usually appears. The architects of the tower and dome never purposely deigned the structure to project the cross image and were just as surprised as everyone else when they first saw it,...

Though he has stayed active in politics — and reappeared on the campaign trail in New Jersey and Virginia just two weeks ago — Obama said he believes he’s up to something bigger, and thereby more curative for what he believes has gone wrong in elections. “The moment we’re in right now, politics is the tail and not the dog,” he said. “What we need to do is think about our civic culture, because what’s wrong with our politics is a reflection of something that’s wrong with the civic culture, not just in the United States but around the world.”...

Kellogg’s has apologized for a cereal-box cartoon that featured a bunch of light-colored Corn Pops hanging out in a mall — while a darker-skinned Pop scrubs the floor. Pictures showing the packaging surfaced on social media and prompted the company to respond. “Hey @KelloggsUS why is literally the only brown corn pop on the whole cereal box the janitor?” asked Marvel Comics writer Saladin Ahmed. “[T]his is teaching kids racism.” “Yes [it’s] a tiny thing, but when you see your kid staring at this over breakfast and realize millions of other kids are doing the same ... ” he added...
