A few years after Wendy Davis claimed in court that she had suffered damage to her mental health, a Texas court put Davis under a temporary restraining order prohibiting her from using drugs or alcohol within twenty-four hours of coming into contact with her children. Folks, from here on out, the only card left for Wendy Davis to play is victim

Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis is under fire for apparently misstating facts about her life story, with a Republican opponent claiming the discrepancies raise questions about her honesty. Davis, a Democratic state senator who rose to prominence last year after delivering a lengthy filibuster against abortion restrictions, was the subject of a Dallas Morning News piece on Sunday that took issue with several details in her personal narrative.

HOUSTON — The Mostyn Law Firm and its attorneys are spending a small fortune to ensure Texas Sen. Wendy Davis' political ambitions come to fruition. The most recent contribution came on Dec. 31, with the Mostyn Law Firm ringing in the New Year by donating $1 million to the Texas Victory Committee -- a joint project of Wendy R. Davis for Governor and Battleground Texas, according to the Texas Ethics Commission. Davis, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, is no stranger to law firms specializing in civil litigation, as she first joined the Fort Worth law office of Haynes & Boone in...

But he didn’t listen to the campaign, and the result is the implosion of Wendy Davis’ personal and political narratives Wendy Davis, the progressive movement’s Texas darling because of her pro-late term abortion filibuster, is withering under revelations that much of her narrative of struggle and financial hardship is misleading at best, fabricated at worst. The wagons are being circled around her with claims of a War on Women and sexism … all because the truth has come out via an interview with her husband by the Dallas Morning News, and other investigation. There even are accusations by Texas Democratic...

Texans are all too familiar with her story. State Senator Wendy Davis overcame hardship as a divorced teenage mother living in a trailer before eventually getting accepted into Harvard Law school and scoring political victories - at least, according to her campaign team. She and her staff have used this narrative to fundraise in the Texas governor’s race and media outlets like the Today show have gushed over her success story. Now, it turns out Davis has not been so “successful” in telling the whole truth about her past. The Dallas Morning News is clarifying some of the state senator’s...

It is not exactly a surprise that the latest feminist political icon, Texas state Senator Wendy Davis, turns out to be a phony and an exploiter. Davis, you may recall, rocketed to progressive superstardom by conducting an ultimately futile filibuster on a bill tightening health regulations on abortions after 20 weeks of gestation when the life of the mother is not in peril. The fact that Davis is an attractive blond and speaks fairly well in public was enough to gladden the heart of the pro-abortion faction, eager to find a champion who can be packaged as an inspiring profile...

President Obama continues to issue his dictates. Michael R. Bloomberg is still throwing around millions of dollars. And Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is just keeping a finger in the dike on Capitol Hill until the midterms. But the American people are ready to get back to strengthening their rights to keep and bear arms.

FORT WORTH — Wendy Davis has made her personal story of struggle and success a centerpiece of her campaign to become the first Democrat elected governor of Texas in almost a quarter-century. While her state Senate filibuster last year captured national attention, it is her biography — a divorced teenage mother living in a trailer who earned her way to Harvard and political achievement — that her team is using to attract voters and boost fundraising. The basic elements of the narrative are true, but the full story of Davis’ life is more complicated, as often happens when public figures...

Tom Pauken, former chairman of the Texas Workforce Commission and former head of the state Republican Party, withdrew from the Texas gubernatorial race. Pauken had struggled to raise money against a well-financed Greg Abbott. The following statement is excerpted from a letter the Pauken campaign sent today to donors and supporters: Thanksgiving is a time to count our blessings, and I have much to be thankful for with such a great family and so many wonderful friends. The past month has made that even clearer and more dear to me. I want to thank you personally for your gracious and...

George P. Bush, a son of a governor and a nephew and grandson to U.S. presidents, has filed to run statewide in Texas, the latest member of the powerful political family to seek elected office. Bush, 37, the son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and his Mexican-born wife, Columba, is seen by some as a transformative figure - a Hispanic candidate for a Republican Party that wants to appeal to the growing and increasingly influential electorate of Latino voters. Bush filed on Tuesday to run for Texas Land Commissioner, a position which, among other duties, manages the Alamo in...

Erick Wyatt, a 37-year-old veteran of the war in Iraq, is running for Sen. John Cornyn’s seat in the Republican primary in March 2014. The young Veteran said he does not think Cornyn is doing a good job representing Texas, and the current Senator is “a moderate at best.” Wyatt is currently the youngest challenger up for Cornyn’s seat, but believes his young age and lack of political background is an advantage because it gives him greater opportunity to relate to the working middle class and the younger generation.

Two Tea Party groups recently declared war on Republicans who voted to end the government shutdown. The Tea Party Nation and the Tea Party Leadership Fund want to run Tea Party-approved candidates against sitting Republicans as punishment for being "traitors." One Tea Party favorite, debunked Christian historian David Barton, is rumored to possibly run against Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), notes Warren Throckmorton at Patheos.org. A "Draft David Barton for US Senate" Facebook page has been set up and currently boasts 1,445 members. One pro-Barton advocate claims on his blog that "last week a meeting occurred between Tea Party leaders and...

Abbott, fresh out of law school, was jogging through Houston's River Oaks neighborhood on July 14, 1984, when a 75-foot oak tree suddenly splintered at its base, striking him in the back and partially paralyzing him. Abbott sued the homeowner and a tree company that had worked in the area and collected millions. He has since become a proponent of limiting civil litigation in Texas and capping the amount of damages that can be awarded. Opponents have called him a hypocrite, but Abbott has largely shrugged off such criticisms. He rarely speaks about his accident, but chose to Sunday. "Piecing...
