  • Here's the official synopsis for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies

    07/18/2014 3:05:38 AM PDT · by Perdogg · 31 replies
Whilst a synopsis is maybe not entirely necessary given that the title of The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies pretty much sums up what the films about - a battle involving five different armies. Warner Brothers have released the official synopsis. Okay, so it goes into a bit more detail than "there are five armies and they do battle" so it isn't entirely a lost cause like the 'Snakes on a Plane' synopsis might've been, and I'm pretty much allowing my prejudice against the third Hobbit film's name change shine through. I liked 'There and Back Again' dammit!
  • 5-foot-tall Kacy Catanzaro conquers 'American Ninja Warrior' course

You don’t need to be tall to be an “American Ninja Warrior.” Kacy Catanzaro shocked “Ninja” viewers with her height-defying performance on an impossibly challenging obstacle course that required the 5-foot-tall former NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year to leap through the air. Though Catanzaro’s height should have hindered her from completing the course, she breezed through some of the toughest obstacles, conquering every last one to become the first woman ever to make it through the Dallas finals and qualify for the Las Vegas finals round.

She’s got copper-colored locks, a peppy personality, an ethnically diverse group of friends, and she knows how to talk millions of Americans into buying a Monterey Ranch Crispy Chicken Sandwich. She’s the Wendy’s Girl. The actress who has played the all-knowing, slightly kooky burger lover for two years is a 28-year-old Alabama native named Morgan Smith Goodwin. (She added her second surname after marrying Dave Goodwin, manager of New York City restaurant Gramercy Tavern.) And while her character has remained nameless in the fast food chain’s TV commercials, it’s not a far stretch to assume she’s Wendy, the freckled little...

In a spoof of Shark Week, Comedy Central will deliver Shart Week. Yes, what a difference one letter can make. The #ShartWeek programming starts at 8 p.m. Aug. 3, and the theme will be carried through episodes of "Tosh.0," "Futurama," "South Park," "Workaholics," "Chappelle's Show," "Key & Peele" and other series. Has anyone seen the new TV series, "Tyrant"? It has to do with terrorism and tyranny and tells it from the perspective of the terrosrist's perspective. It portrays the Muslims speaking English while wearing their hijabs and other Muslim attire. I get the feeling that the show was produced to make the Muslims appear more "American" friendly and suspect its a veiled attempt to introduce their lifestyle to Americans to familiarize them with their culture incrementalism style. It would take an idiot to not understand the implications and intentions therein.

My wife and I are avid movie attendees — dinner and a movie every Friday for more than 50 years. This past Fourth of July was no exception. In the movie guide that day, the PG listed “America: Imagine the World Without Her” (not reviewed). This seemed to be the perfect movie for us, so off we went to the Galleria theater. It started out pretty well, and then George Washington was shot by a sniper and the colonies supposedly lost the American Revolution. That is where the premise of the title ends and the growth of America was described....

On July 13, 1984, the young stars of The Last Starfighter saw their careers blast off into outer space, as a friendship was born that carries on three decades later. Today marks the 29th anniversary of the original theatrical release of the groundbreaking sci-fi classic The Last Starfighter, so we figured it’s a perfect time to take a fun look back at the film through the eyes of its stars, Lance Guest and Catherine Mary Stewart, both of whom attended a Q&A panel at the second Blood at the Beach Convention in Virginia Beach in 2012. Guest plays Alex Rogan,...

James Bond 24 Movie Release Date Delayed? New Scribes Tapped To Rewrite Script; Cast News Include ‘Harry Potter’ Star Daniel Radcliffe As Villain. Sony Pictures is actively working on James Bond 24 movie that is reportedly scheduled with a release date on Oct. 23, 2015. However, veteran James Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are now tapped to rewrite John Logan's script. "Purvis and Wade have been asked to 'punch up' the script and sprinkle in more gags, emphasising the witty repartee between Daniel Craig's 007 and Naomie Harris's Miss Moneypenny, and focusing on the interplay between Bond and...

We wonder if Pharrell Williams has gotten wind of this... "Weird Al" Yankovic debuted the music video for his first single from his upcoming album, Mandatory Fun, on Monday, and, in anticipation of the record's release, the 54-year-old celeb will be sharing eight new videos over the next eight days. The first of which is a parody of the Pharrell's hit jam "Happy" and has been cleverly renamed "Tacky" in an effort to poke fun at the tackiest folks in our society with a little help from Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black, who are...

Pam Oliver is no longer Fox's top NFL sideline reporter. And after this coming football season, she will no longer be a sideline reporter at all. Oliver confirmed the news to Sports Illustrated on Sunday night that she will move to the network’s No. 2 team for her 20th NFL broadcasting season. Erin Andrews has been elevated to the No. 1 sideline spot, joining the team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Oliver’s last season working as a reporter on the NFL will be spent with the No. 2 Fox team of Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch.

Fred Thompson's political career dates back to Watergate. Since, he has been a U.S. Senator and presidential candidate. He now does triple duty in talk radio, as a columnist and as a respected character actor; a profession he's enjoyed success in since 1987. In a Hollywood Reporter interview about his upcoming film "Persecuted," which opens in 600 theatres this Friday, Thompson admits things are tough for Republicans in Hollywood -- even for a veteran like himself: Is it tough to be a Republican actor in Hollywood? It's a tough business for everybody, but if you happen to run across a...
  • Joan Rivers and the Humorless Generation: How the Politically Correct Culture is Killing Comedy

Joan Rivers made news recently when she walked off of a CNN set during an interview with Fredericka Whitfield. When Whitfield suggested that Rivers could be “mean,” the latter informed the former that under no circumstances should she be interviewing someone, like Rivers, for whom comedy is a calling. Whatever else may be said of Joan Rivers—I, for one, have never had much to say about her at all—this much seems certain: The woman knows that of which she speaks when it comes to her craft. That is to say, she is acutely aware of the purpose, the invaluable purpose,...

The infected have worms writhing under their skin and vicious stingers waiting to shoot out of their mouths at the slightest whiff of hemoglobin. The Strain isn't Twilight. The Strain isn’t your average vampire show. This much would have been obvious to anyone watching the series’ premiere Sunday night on FX. For starters, there’s the story. A plane lands at JFK, then stops dead on the tarmac. As epidemiologist Ephraim Goodweather (the excellent Corey Stoll of House of Cards) soon discovers, everyone on board is dead—or so it seems. What Goodweather assumes to be a virus actually turns out to...

The movie takes place in a new ice age brought on by global environmental abuse. Only a few hundred souls remain, and survival is very much at stake. Still, humans bring along the same old emotional baggage. Social class, economic disparity, power, loyalty and petty jealousies play out with a fury that comes from being imprisoned by circumstance. This is year 17 on the train. A generation has never lived anywhere else. Lest that sound too dismal, buried inside the action is a story of hope hard won. It rests with one rebel, Curtis (Evans), a resident of the slums...
