Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida all but declared his presidential candidacy on Thursday afternoon, telling donors and supporters on a call that only three “credible” candidates were in the race and that only he would be able to win both the Republican primary and the general election. “You have basically three people at this point that are credible in this whole thing,” Mr. DeSantis told donors on the call, organized by the super PAC supporting him, Never Back Down. “Biden, Trump and me. And I think of those three, two have a chance to get elected president — Biden and...

Says Cornyn: "I don’t think President Trump understands that when you run in a general election, you have to appeal to voters beyond your base." WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said Thursday that Republicans need to find an alternative to former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election, saying the party needs "a candidate who can actually win." ~snip~ Cornyn, a former chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Senate majority whip, did not endorse any other declared candidate or potential contender, though he praised Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and U.S....

As expected, the Florida Senate has passed the Ron DeSantis is a liar law, permitting the Florida Governor to run without resigning, by a vote of 28-12. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – The Florida Senate approved an election overhaul bill Wednesday 28-12, which included a clarification to the “resign-to-run” law. The change would exempt officeholders seeking the position of U.S. president or vice president from the state’s “resign-to-run” law. • If Donald Trump Is the Nominee, Hillary Clinton Has Already Won in November

Barring a zombie apocalypse, alien invasion or Hillary being indicted for her crimes by the Obama-run DOJ (which is about as likely as the first two), Donald Trump is not going to be the next president. Even if Hillary’s horrible cough turns out to be a symptom of some fatal disease, Trump still won’t be elected because whoever her vice president turns out to be will still beat him.

Perhaps the most important results of the March 22 Republican primary in Arizona and caucus in Utah were numbers that didn't appear on your television screen, no matter how late you stayed up for the poll closing times. Those were the numbers of votes cast for Marco Rubio in Arizona -- 70,587 of them at this writing. That was 17,595 more than the 52,992 votes cast there for John Kasich, even though Kasich was an active candidate on March 22 and Rubio had "suspended" his campaign after his defeat in Florida seven days before. One lesson from this is that...

From Katie Glueck writing at Politico: Six in 10 Republican insiders in the early states say Donald Trump can’t win Iowa or New Hampshire. That’s the assessment of this week’s POLITICO Caucus, our weekly bipartisan survey of the top operatives, strategists and activists in Iowa and New Hampshire. Their conclusion comes on the heels of the latest national poll, from CNN/ORC, that reports the controversial real estate mogul is leading the GOP presidential field even after crudely attacking Fox News host Megyn Kelly last week following the first GOP debate, which she co-moderated.
