This controversy is surreal because it’s totally artificial. Transgender men and women have been using bathrooms without incident since long before any right wing extremist group dreamed up legislation to alienate and punish them.

Anyone out shopping yesterday notice more transvestites than usual? In my local WalMart I counted 5 definitely and maybe 7 and no I didn't go into the bathroom. In a good year I'll see maybe .75 total transvestites in this lily-white, upper-crust area Wal Mart in the Capital District of NY. No pictures as I'm awful with my phone/camera and being sneaky. I realize evidence is crucial to the believability of this event and I am sorry, and that's why I'm wondering anyone else saw this. It looked like an organized event, or maybe the bus of a traveling Drag...

Target is facing a nationwide backlash for its support of transgender rights. More than 1.2 million people have signed a pledge to boycott the retailer after it announced last month that it would welcome transgender customers to use any bathroom or fitting room that matches their gender identity. Critics have been holding protests and demonstrations at stores across the country, and they are showing no signs of dying down. Many aredemanding access to bathrooms of the opposite sex to support claims that "perverts" can now prey on children and women as a result of the policy. The boycotters' goal is...

Now that gay marriage is here, you didn’t think that would be the end of things, did you? The Column reports on colleges and universities that have sought, and in most cases received, religious exemptions from Title IX requirements. The story frames these schools as bigot colleges (“Training schools to discriminateâ€). Excerpts: Nearly three dozen religious institutions of higher learning have asked the federal government to waive laws that protect LGBT students, according to government documents obtained by The Column. The schools are asking the U.S. Department of Education to waive portions of Title IX that might apply to students...

Jennifer Harvey, a Professor of Religion at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, is calling on "white Christians" to repent for their forefathers' sins and their current privilege by paying reparations. Speaking at Drew Theological School, Dr. Harvey said that calling all races "equal" is "a morally incoherent paradigm" that cannot solve the racial injustices that are in the United States. Instead, white Christians need to "repent" by paying reparations to African Americans. "Reconciliation rests on the assumption that all of our differences can be similarly celebrated and embraced," she explained. "I can come to better love and appreciate your...

Prosecutors declined to charge Caitlyn Jenner on Wednesday in a California car crash that led to the death of another driver, saying there was not enough evidence for a conviction. Authorities said Jenner was towing an off-road vehicle on a trailer behind a Cadillac Escalade on Feb. 7 when she crashed into two cars, pushing one into oncoming traffic. Driver Kim Howe was killed when her Lexus was hit by a Hummer. "We believed from the start that a thorough and objective investigation would clear Caitlyn of any criminal wrongdoing," said Blair Berk, Jenner's attorney.

The new policy, to be implemented by the end of May, states that cosmetic makeup can be worn on any person “regardless of gender,” and that a person isn’t misrepresenting his or her identity when makeup or clothing don’t match traditional gender expectations. DMV employees will also be trained in how to serve transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. The lawsuit, settled in the U.S. District Court in Columbia, S.C., was the first of its kind to challenge these sorts of restrictions on license photos, according to Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund executive director Michael Silverman. Lawyers for the organization...

As a transgender woman who began her transition about a year ago, Kylie Jack is still figuring out her fashion style, but she wanted one thing right away: well-fitting bras. Friends recommended Petticoat Fair in Austin, Texas, where she lives. The lingerie shop is known for one-on-one fittings, but Jack was denied access to the area where professionals work privately with customers after being asked if she was an anatomical female. […] A gender binary exists in fashion, and that’s a challenge for those who don’t conform. Masculine-presenting women are often destined for boys’ departments or bad fits, while people...

SACRAMENTO— A state board on Thursday granted 14 rape victims who had been working as prostitutes the right to be compensated, the first such action since it reversed its policy on the issue last year. The California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board took the action on behalf of women whose claims had previously been denied. The victims' next step is to submit the amount of compensation they are seeking. The decision follows a vote by the board in December to eliminate a policy that banned compensation for those who were attacked while working as prostitutes. The new rules allow...

The Rev. John Jenkins, president of Notre Dame, explained in a recent article in The Observer that he created an Oversight Committee on Diversity and Inclusion to create a welcoming atmosphere on campus that “go[es] across all areas” of campus for students, faculty, and staff. He said that the committee “seeks to implement concrete changes on campus, but noticeable progress will not occur overnight.”In the article, Fr. Margarine is on the way to becoming illegal, but businesses will be required to employ 300 pound men in dresses. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), Dean Heller (R-Nev.), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.). At this point, McCain isn’t exactly a surprise. Ayotte unfortunately does whatever he tells her. Why did...

Virginia prison officials must grant transsexual inmate Ophelia De’lonta her wish to be examined by a gender specialist at the Buckingham Correctional Center, the all-male prison where she lives. U.S. District Court Judge James Turk announced his decision Wednesday. Turk said the exam, which De’lonta’s attorneys pledged she will pay for, is for valid legal discovery to support her ongoing lawsuit aimed at winning sex-reassignment surgery at state expense. . . . Brown said in a court filing that Virginia prison officials’ protocol for inmates with gender dysphoria is “grossly clinically inappropriate” and at least 10 years out of date,...

Hernandez tells EAGnews the day was originally billed as “Gender Bender Day,” but Tippecanoe officials made the name change after she called Principal Jeffrey Krupar to complain. CNSNews.com) - At a White House reception held Friday evening in honor of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Pride month, President Barack Obama celebrated a 1969 anti-police riot that started in what the New York Times reports was an illegal Mafia-owned bar for transvestites. “Now, each June since I took office, we have gathered to pay tribute to the generations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans who devoted their lives to our most basic of ideals--equality not just for some, but for all,” Obama said. “Together we’ve marked major milestones like the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, when...
