The quiet sibling from a family often visited by tragedy. A shy young man with few close friends. A mass shooter who does not appear to have been on the radar of either federal national security agencies or provincial law enforcement. Faisal Hussain, the 29-year-old gunman in Sunday's fatal rampage on the Danforth, had a complicated past replete with family misfortune — including his older brother's drug overdose, which put him in a vegetative state — and mental health challenges including psychosis, his family said. But if there were warning signs, they weren't foretold in a criminal rap sheet. According...

<p>TORONTO -- Canadian investigators were digging Tuesday into the life of the 29-year-old man who opened fire on restaurants and cafes in a popular Toronto neighborhood, seeking to explain what prompted the rampage that killed a 10-year-old girl and a young woman and wounded 13 others. Shame on Toronto Mayor John Tory for shutting the lid on what happened on the Danforth before the grieving families could even bury their dead. In Canada it is all but impossible to legally acquire a handgun. Is it even remotely possible that John Tory, the mayor of Canada’s largest city, doesn’t know that? One day after the Danforth tragedy that left two innocents dead and 13 others wounded, Tory called for the total disarmament of Toronto— saying nobody needs a gun — in the wake of a gunman’s rampage through its Danforth district.

Granted, Toronto’s 58 homicides YTD can’t hold a candle to Detroit’s, but still, that’s a distressingly high count for a nation said to have common-sense gun control™ and very few murders.Following Saturday’s fatal shooting spree by Faisal Hussain in the city’s Greektown area, Toronto’s mayor thinks the common sense solution lies in a total disarmament of the city: “Why does anyone in this city need to have a gun at all?” he said. I don’t know: maybe for self-defense? Due to the rapidly rising wave of violent crime in the city on the lake? And remember kids, just like in...

Premier Doug Ford has officially revoked cap and trade — and is now starting to wrap up initiatives funded by the doomed program. “Cap-and-trade and carbon tax schemes are no more than government cash grabs that do nothing for the environment while hitting people in the wallet in order to fund big government programs,” Ford said in a statement Tuesday. “I promised that the party with taxpayers’ dollars was over and that this would include scrapping the cap-and-trade, carbon tax slush fund.”

The Progressive Conservative Party firebrand Doug Ford, brother of the late former Toronto mayor Rob Ford, will be sworn in as the premier of Ontario on Friday and assume a highly influential position in a province he calls "the engine of...

Johnny Manziel completed 9-of-12 passes in his first appearance with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but it was the Toronto Argonauts who cruised to the easy 36-18 victory at Tim Hortons Field in the exhibition opener for both teams. Manziel, 25, certainly didn’t look out of place but faced a Toronto defence minus most of its starters and Hamilton was very conservative in its play-calling. The six-foot, 210-pound Texan, who signed with the Ticats two weeks ago, directed five drives (22 plays) and was especially effective throwing on the run.

The male creators of the exhibit also included a helpful manifesto,...

Back in 2010, al Qaeda called for terrorist recruits to use trucks to “mow down the enemies of Allah.” In 2014, the Islamic State (ISIS) told fighters if they couldn’t find an IED or a bullet they should kill unbelievers with a knife, rock, or poison, or “run over him with your car.” True to form, in Nice, Berlin, Barcelona, Stockholm, and London, Islamic terrorists used vehicles to mount deadly attacks. Uzbek Muslim Sayfullo Saipov, acting on behalf of the Islamic State, used a rented truck to murder eight victims in New York City last October. Monday’s attack in Toronto...
