The Ontario lottery corporation recently started advertising its newest scratch-and-win lottery: tickets cost $30 (the highest price among its lotteries), and the top prize is a cool $2.5 million. Now, if you want an indication of how bad traffic is in the GTA, consider that Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced a lottery of his own on Thursday: tickets cost $180 each, though you only pay if you win. The prize? One of 1,000 permits to drive in an uncongested highway lane for 16 kilometres between Burlington and Oakville. The ad copy writes itself: Imagine the freedom of cruising at...

OTTAWA — The Liberal government is intent on buying Super Hornet fighter jets, according to multiple sources. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet reportedly discussed the issue last week, and while no formal decision was taken, one top-level official said: “They have made up their minds and are working on the right narrative to support it.” Rather than a full replacement of the air force’s aging CF-18 fighter fleet, it’s believed the purchase will be labelled an interim measure to fill what Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan has warned is a pending “gap” in Canada’s military capabilities. The Liberals promised during the...

A provocative $4-million documentary by Toronto filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici claims to have found archeological evidence verifying the story of the biblical Exodus from Egypt, 3,500 years ago. Religious Jews consider the biblical account incontrovertible — the foundation story of the creation of the nation of Israel. Indeed, they celebrated the Exodus Wednesday night and last night with the annual Passover recitation of the Haggadah. But among scholars, the question of if and when Moses led an estimated two million Israelite slaves out of pharaonic Egypt, miraculously crossed the Red Sea ahead of the pursuing Egyptian army and received the Ten...

Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son...

Keith Richards was facing seven years in prison in 1977 for a massive drug bust at his Toronto hotel room. The night before he was sentenced, he headed to Toronto's Interchange Studios and recorded several songs he'd learned from his late friend Gram Parsons. The highlight was "Sing Me Back Home," a ballad Merle Haggard wrote about his time at San Quentin. For our upcoming issue, Richards spoke with Rolling Stone about his appreciation for Haggard, who died earlier this month, who he calls "one of the great country singers of all time and a hell of a guitar player."I...

[AP Photo/Toby Talbot] By: Pardes Seleh October 8, 2015 The administration at the University of Toronto was recently enlightened on why two separate washrooms are generally established for men and women sharing co-ed residencies. The University is temporarily changing its policy on gender-neutral bathrooms after two separate incidents of "voyeurism" were reported on campus September 15 and 19. Male students within the University’s Whitney Hall student residence were caught holding their cellphones over female students’ shower stalls and filming them as they showered. Melinda Scott, dean of students at the University of Toronto, told The Daily Wire that campus police...

Considering how widespread these stories are across the United States these days, an incident in Canada may prove instructive for those debating the SJW’s demands for genderless public facilities and the intersection between those policies and traditional privacy concerns. The University of Toronto recently went down the same path being forced into place on American campuses, instituting unisex bathrooms, locker rooms and showers. What could possibly go wrong? They found out in short order. (The Daily Wire) The administration at the University of Toronto was recently enlightened on why two separate washrooms are generally established for men and women...

Toronto police Chief Mark Saunders says a 27-year-old man is under arrest after two members of the Canadian Forces were stabbed in north Toronto earlier on Monday. A man walked into the recruitment centre, pulled out a knife and attacked the person behind the counter, Saunders said. The attacker attempted to move farther into the building, but was taken down by a group of between six and eight soldiers, the chief said. The suspect uttered the word "Allah" the Toronto Sun reports, citing police sources. A source with knowledge of the investigation has also told CBC News the same thing.

The recent spate of shootings in this city has a lot of people asking why it's happening and how concerned we should be about our safety. After two people were killed and three more injured in Chinatown early Sunday morning, those questions are being asked more and more. The shooting happened on Spadina near Nassau Street, when a gunman opened fire on a group of men outside a restaurant. It's the ninth homicide in the city this year. Eight of those killings involved firearms. That brings the number of shootings up by about 100 per cent over this month last...

Let’s jump into the Way Back Machine and revisit a message that Barack Obama sent to the governors of our nation when they expressed concerns about plopping Syrian refugees down in our communities. And by “way back” I mean three weeks ago. "In short, the security vetting for this population, the most vulnerable of individuals, is extraordinarily thorough and comprehensive," Secretary of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson write in letters sent to all state and territorial governors and to the mayor of Washington. D.C. Huh. Our vetting process is extraordinarily thorough and comprehensive. And to their...

Toronto police have found several guns and a religious book in the trunk of a car that was abandoned after a crash. The single-vehicle collision happened at Allen and Transit roads, north of Wilson Avenue, around 4:30 a.m. on Friday. The routine investigation turned into something much more when police arrived to find no one in the car. However, they did find a machine gun with a silencer, two handguns, one silencer for a handgun, and a small amount of ammunition. Police said the religious materials do not appear to have any connection to the investigation, and it is likely...
