When the mayor of Richmond, Calif., and a gaggle of activists and homeowners showed up at the Wells Fargo Bank headquarters in downtown San Francisco this month, they were on a mission to speak with the bank’s chief executive. They wanted the bank to drop a lawsuit aimed at stopping Richmond’s first-in-the-nation plan to use the government’s constitutional power of eminent domain to “seize” hundreds of mortgages from Wells Fargo and other financial institutions. … Wells Fargo, three other banks and even the Federal Housing Finance Agency think otherwise. The banks have filed two lawsuits alleging that the plan is...

Is there any sadder testament to the fading magic of Hopenchange than this? Reading it, I actually felt sorry for the guy. Any high school principals out there in the HA audience have time to throw together an application and reassure The One that kids still love him? And by “love him,” I mean “will happily sit through a speech/photo op in lieu of having to go to class.” The competition was extended from the February 25 deadline until Friday, March 11 after few schools met the original application deadline. CBS News has learned a White House Communications Office internal...

U.S. Sen. John McCain has picked up the endorsement of former actor and Sen. Fred Thompson while opponent J.D. Hayworth gets ready for an event with Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and State Sen. Russell Pearce. Hayworth and McCain, seeking a fifth term, are battling in the Republican Senate primary this year. Thompson — a former senator from Tennessee and actor on the “Law & Order” television show — announced his endorsement Wednesday. McCain and Thompson both ran for president in 2008. “I’m for John McCain. I hope he gets re-elected. I’ll help him get re-elected if I can. It’s...

How do we, as republicans, prevent the spread of bile under the guise of conservatism? I mean, how are we to educate people to our beliefs if we have those crazies among us who refuse to project themselves as intelligent articulate contributors to society? I WANT to see the Republican party grow and flourish... but how can we do that if a few uneducated extremists continue to demolish our good name??? Thoughts?
