One of the men arrested for shooting dead six people in a wild gunfight in Sacramento on Sunday filmed himself on Facebook live brandishing a weapon hours before allegedly opening fire. Smiley Martin, 27, appears in the video holding a black handgun which he pointed towards the camera. One of the guns used in the shooting was a stolen handgun, according to police. He says little throughout the 38-second clip but other men can be heard in the background. Law enforcement wiped the video from his Facebook account after his arrest on Tuesday.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A 19-year-old accused of multiple road-rage shootings in Florida has been arrested again. Officials with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Emanuel Bullard was arrested for a fifth incident after a victim recognized him on the news. According to the sheriff’s office, the incident with the latest victim happened in December 2021. Bullard, who was out on bond for the previous reports, was placed under arrest. Sheriff John Mina took to Twitter, posting in part, “I’m confident he will remain in jail this time.” He is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.

A study finds that suspects in violent crime in the District share a lot of characteristics. The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform looked at the numbers for homicides and nonfatal shooting in D.C. in 2019 and 2020, and found that “most gun violence is tightly concentrated on a small number of very high-risk young Black male adults that share a common set of risk factors.” Those factors include involvements in street crews, a previous criminal justice history and connection to a recent shooting.
