Sen. Jim DeMint proudly recalls the moment he became a thorn in the side of the Republican establishment. In the gloomy weeks following the party's throttling in the 2008 elections, the first-term South Carolina senator urged GOP leaders to shake up the seniority rules that he felt were perpetuating a broken culture of parochial spending within the party. "I was told eye-to-eye ... 'DeMint, you can't change the Senate,'" he said in an interview in his Capitol Hill office this week. "I said, 'Well, we'll see.' And that's been my challenge ever since."

Jeffrey Damon Thorn, 26, who was fired on the day he was arrested on an aggravated sexual assault charge in the first case, was rearrested this week on a sexual assault charge in the other case. Thorn’s attorney, Mark A. Troy, said his client maintains his innocence.

Rita Lotti was born in 1381 in the tiny hamlet of Roccaporena, near Cascia, in the Province of Umbria, Italy. Her parents Antonio and Amata looked upon their only child as a very special gift from God since she was born to them as they were already getting on in years. The Lottis were a devout Christian couple, offering their daughter the witness of strong faith in God and a practical example of Gospel living, especially in their role as official peacemakers or reconcilers among their fellow citizens. It should not have been surprising then that Rita, who shared her...

A SERMON PREACHED ON CHRISTMAS EVE, 1995 IN ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT, BY THE RECTOR, THE REV. DR. LEANDER S. HARDING This night I would like to tell you a story. This story is not from Scripture but from the folk ways of our Anglican Tradition. It is one those stories that is impossible to verify. It is not, as they say, one of those things necessary to salvation. But it is a story that has warmed the hearts of the faithful for generations and I want to share it with you. It is a story about someone...
