Last Tuesday Vice President Joe Biden swore in Senator Thad Cochran for a 7th term. Upon seeing his old friend from his decades in the US Senate, Biden enthusiastically remarked, “Thaddeus!6374807_G Best guy in the US Senate right here. I can say that now because it can’t hurt him.” How wonderful! This is yet another high-profile Democrat who has admiration for Thad Cochran. Remember, it was Harry Reid who praised Cochran on the Senate floor as a “wonderful man.” It is a fair question that we have asked here at MCD for more than a year: Why do Democrats love...
  • Two St. Louis Republicans Battle To Lead Missouri Party (Priebus promised revenge on Tea Party)

Despite all the gains that Missouri Republicans made in last fall’s balloting, the state party appears headed for a showdown shortly over who should be its leader heading into the crucial 2016 elections. Two St. Louisans – incumbent state GOP chairman Ed Martin and former party executive director John Hancock – are competing in an election to determine who gets Martin's job. Ed Martin in 2010 at his election watch party when he ran unsuccessfully for Congress Ed Martin in 2010 at his election watch party when he ran unsuccessfully for Congress. The current GOP executive director, Matt Wills, confirmed...
  • Here’s how Alabama’s senators became major players in the GOP’s efforts to retake the senate

All eyes are on the 35 U.S. Senate seats up for grabs this year. Republicans need to pick up 6 seats to regain the majority and the election map is tilted in their favor. 21 of the 35 seats in play are currently held by Democrats; 7 of the seats held by Democrats are in states that Romney won in 2012; and history shows that the minority Party normally gains 6 or more seats in a midterm election of a president’s second term. (SNIP) Sen. Shelby is a fundraising juggernaut. For decades he has been one of the top fundraisers...

Friend, At midnight tonight, we will hit our most important fundraising deadline-to-date: the midyear reporting deadline. This is such an important milestone that Senator Rob Portman has agreed to triple-match every online donation made before midnight tonight. Thousands of you have already responded to Senator Portman’s generous offer, and we’re just one big, grassroots push away from meeting our goals. These goals are not arbitrary – they are the resources we need to retake the United States Senate; right now, we’re a little short and we need your help. I know you get a lot of e-mails, but we are...

Coming into Tuesday's runoff election in Mississippi, polling suggested that incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran was at a major disadvantage. As we noted, there was a big question mark hanging over any predictions because it wasn't clear what turnout would look like.In part, that was because the Cochran campaign was explicitly targeting black voters to come out to vote, despite those voters usually voting Democratic. Now, of course, we know what happened. Counties with a higher black population voted more heavily.

Obviously Cochran is not going to resign. The governor should appoint McDaniel to his seat the GOP can be unified. Wicker is more open to amnesty than Cochran as well. Wicker only voted against the final cloture after he got hundreds of angry calls.

JACKSON, Mississippi — NFL legend Brett Favre has endorsed the re-election of Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), cutting a television ad for the six-term incumbent days ahead of a runoff election against Tea Party-backed state senator Chris McDaniel. “I’ve learned through football that strong leadership makes the difference between winning and losing. And when it comes to our state’s future, trust me: Mississippi can win — and win big with Thad Cochran as our strong voice in Washington,” Favre says in the ad. “Thad Cochran always delivers, just like he did during Katrina.” But a drunk-driving accident involving Favre's brother and...

The political powers that be are going all out to build support for a GOP insider who is facing a powerful challenge from a tea party candidate for his own party’s Senate nomination – to the point a Democratic political operative has been put to work drumming up Democratic votes for Republican Sen. Thad Cochran in Mississippi. It’s according to a report from local media outlets, including the Clarion-Ledger, which said James “Scooby Doo” Warren, a longtime Democratic operative, confirmed he was working with Mississippi Conservatives PAC on behalf of Cochran.

The Washington Examiner reports that Thad Cochran hosts fundraisers for Democrats in his home. Well . . . they report it slightly differently. The Washington Examiner reports that Cochran’s executive assistant, Kay Webber, hosts fundraisers in her home and Thad Cochran rents a basement apartment there. But there is no basement apartment in Kay Webber’s home available for rent. That’s according to the District of Columbia database where these things can be tracked. If Thad Cochran is renting from Kay Webber, as opposed to living in her house, then he and she have a bit of a problem with the...

If you check in regularly with the Drudge Report, you probably remember the mysterious light spiral over Norway last year, and the multitude of explanations offered for it (I think we were finally told that it was a Russian missile experiment gone awry). Now there's a new light spiral in Australia, that isn't getting so much attention - and there aren't any Russian missile tests anywhere near there. So what gives? A quick visit to the website of Share International, a creepy, occultist, messianic New Age group headed by Benjamin Creme, says these light spirals in the sky are a...

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2009 – The United States has deployed missile defense equipment to the Pacific amid reports alleging that North Korea has threatened to fire a ballistic missile toward Hawaii, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said today. “We're obviously watching the situation in the north, with respect to missile launches, very closely,” Gates said at a Pentagon news conference with Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “And we do have some concerns if they were to launch a missile to the west, in the direction of Hawaii.” Gates has ordered the deployment of...
