GREENVILLE, SC—As Halloween approaches, haunted house attractions and extreme horror experiences are competing for the crown of "most horrifying haunted house in the country." According to horror enthusiasts, a new attraction called Maskless Murder Mansion has left the competition in the dust with a twisted new vision of horror: an old mansion filled with regular people who happen to not be wearing masks. "Yeah we know this is really messed up stuff," said Zach McDongle, owner and mastermind behind the attraction. "So far, no one has had the courage to make it all the way through." For anyone brave enough...

For decades, federal prosecutors have been told not to mount election fraud investigations in the final months before an election for fear they could depress voter turnout or erode confidence in the results. Now, the Justice Department has lifted that prohibition weeks before the presidential election. The move comes as President Trump and Attorney General William P. Barr have promoted a false narrative that voter fraud is rampant, potentially undermining Americans’ faith in the election. A Justice Department lawyer in Washington said in a memo to prosecutors on Friday that they could investigate suspicions of election fraud before votes are...

Doctors at Walter Reed gave everyone good news on President Donald Trump’s health on Sunday after he went in for treatment for COVID-19. Well, one reporter didn’t think it was good news. A hot mic picked up one reporter saying, “That wasn’t as much fun as yesterday.” It’s like they wanted him to get it really bad (hopefully none of them hoped he would die) in order to say I TOLD YOU SO!

House Democrats are launching an investigation into President Trump’s treatment of the Secret Service during his bout with the coronavirus. Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, accused Trump of disregarding the safety of his protective detail when he left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for a short drive in his limousine to greet supporters who were outside the facility. Thompson called Trump’s Sunday night trip a “joyride” that risked the health and safety of the agents who had to accompany him on the trip. “So we can know more about how these events have affected the...

No doubt about it. The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a godsend for the Republican Party. It's just what President Trump needed to come back from the dead. It gives him a chance to tilt the court to the far right for decades, with the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the bench. It energizes the Republican base. It locks up the Catholic vote. And, most importantly, it changes the subject! Nobody will talk about the coronavirus anymore. From now on, all they'll talk about is getting Barrett confirmed before Nov. 3. That's what Trump believes. That's...

Calamitous portents abound, but I'd like to gloss over those fantastical predictions from zany whack jobs and focus solely on the forecast provided by one Sir Isaac Newton. After all, he was correct about gravity, the laws of motion, and the spectrum of white light -- heck -- why not about the end of the world? Contrary to what you might think, Newton was not always the supreme rationalist that we've come to revere. He actually wrote more about theology and alchemy than science and math combined. Newton voraciously sought out patterns and hidden codes within the Bible and other...

Spurred by fears stemming from the coronavirus pandemic and racial justice protests, millions of Americans are buying guns — many of who are first-time gun owners, NPR reported. Phillip Levine, an economist and professor at Wellesley College, told NPR that he estimates that about 3 million more guns than usual have been sold since the pandemic started. And the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a gun industry trade group, said that 2020 is on track to be the biggest year ever for gun sales in the U.S. But before you rush out to by a gun, consider if that’s a wise...

The World Health Organization has reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours. The UN health agency says Brazil led the way with 54,771 cases tallied and the US next at 36,617. Over 15,400 came in in India. Experts say rising case counts can reflect multiple factors including more widespread testing as well as broader infection. Overall in the pandemic, WHO has reported 8,708,008 cases — 183,020 in the last 24 hours — with 461,715 deaths worldwide, with a daily increase of 4,743. More than two-thirds...

VIDEO Now that there will be a Trump rally in Tulsa with over 800,000 signed up to attend, the media has discovered that coronavirus is rising again. Of course, during the recent wave of protests with little to no social distancing that concern was pretty much absent. Oddly enough, the graph of the actual deaths from the virus as you can see paints a starkly contrasting picture to what is now being portrayed.

A former top US health official has told Congress the country could face its "darkest winter in modern history" because of the coronavirus. Rick Bright led the government agency trying to develop a vaccine, but was removed from his post last month. He has previously said he was ousted from the job for raising concern over a treatment being touted by President Donald Trump. The US leader dismissed him as a "disgruntled" employee.

Former CIA Director John Brennan said he is aghast by President Donald Trump's abuse of authority and the use of the intelligence and national security communities to retain power. In an interview on Thursday with MSNBC's Brian Williams and Nicolle Wallace, Brennan said the intel community is being exploited for political purposes by people who don't have the principles to lead the country and accused Trump of acting with a "despot's playbook." "I think our country is in very serious trouble," Brennan lamented. "When you have such blatant political corruption at the highest levels of the U.S. government, something I...

A new Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions seeks to keep the earth from becoming “a giant, raging fire ball floating atop a bubbling hot ocean of acid,” writes Gwendolyn Knapp for Houstonia magazine. Knapp praised the city of Houston for launching a Climate Action Plan, along with hundreds of other U.S. cities with “like-minded, science-backed, and community-driven strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” just in time for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. “The city intends to meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, and lead the global energy transition,” Knapp declares. “It will...

Another sudden and unexpected factor will transform this year’s elections. Many states, cities and counties are about to, suddenly, run out of money. Wages won’t be paid. Services won’t be delivered. Institutions will shut down abruptly. Many state colleges may fold. And yet most state and local political and administrative leaders just sit and watch. Voters will not be pleased. Millions of American workers filed for unemployment insurance during the past two weeks. That is a record and represents a collapse of our local economies. Across the country, in every state, county and city, businesses have been shut down, and...

The huge "potentially hazardous" asteroid 1998 OR2 is just a few weeks away from its close encounter with Earth, and you can watch the giant space rock's approach online or with a small telescope. While asteroid 1998 OR2 is large enough to wreak havoc on Earth if it were to strike our planet, it won't come anywhere near a collision when it flies by on April 29. "On April 29, asteroid 1998 OR2 will safely pass by 3.9 million miles/6.2 million kilometers," scientists with NASA's Asteroid Watch program said in a Twitter update as they debunked a Daily Express report...

At a former open pit copper mine filled with billions of gallons of toxic water, sirens and loud pops from propane cannons echo off the granite walls to scare away birds so they don’t land. After several thousand migrating snow geese perished in the Berkeley Pit’s acidic, metal-laden waters in 2016, its owners deployed a sophisticated arsenal to frighten away flocks, including lasers, drones, fireworks and remote-controlled boats. Montana Resources already had been hazing incoming birds with spotlights and rifle shots into the water — and a spokesman says those existing deterrents likely helped the company avoid a penalty or...

'Normal flu, if I get that, I'm going to infect on average about 1.3 or 1.4 people - if there was such a division,' he told Dr Xand van Tulleken on Channel 4's Coronavirus: How to Isolate Yourself programme. 'If those 1.3 or 1.4 people gave it to the next lot that's the second time it gets passed on. By the time that's happened 10 times, I've been responsible for about 14 cases of flu.' ... The main threats are in East Africa and Yemen, as well the Gulf states, Iran, Pakistan and India. Most recently, locusts have been seen in the Democratic Republic of Congo and swarms have arrived in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar and along the coast of Iran. According to reports, China is ready to send 100,000 ducks to its border to devour the insects, telling the birds were “biological weapons,” capable of eating more than 200 locusts a day (chickens can ‘only’ eat about 70 locusts in one day.
