Lt. Cmdr. Tim White, the Navy officer who fired a sidearm in defense during the attack on Navy Operational Support Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., will not face charges, an official familiar with the investigation told Stars and Stripes on Wednesday. White was reported to be one of two servicemembers carrying sidearms at the time of the attack, which could have led to charges. The Department of Defense prohibits all military personnel other than security forces from carrying arms while on base unless they are in a combat zone. Chattanooga Tea Party President Mark West said Wednesday, the U.S. Senator from Texas will be visiting with Southeast Tennessee residents at GraceWorks Church, 6445 Lee Highway in Chattanooga. Cruz is visiting Chattanooga at 8:30 a.m. Monday to meet with residents and share his vision for the nation. There will also be biscuits and gravy served. The venue change was due to "a higher than expected response" West said in an email.

An ex-convict wanted in Tennessee for the murder of a Memphis police officer turned himself in to the authorities on Monday, law enforcement officials said. Tremaine Wilbourn, 29, was taken into custody after surrendering to the United States Marshals Office, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said. Toney Armstrong, the Memphis police director, said Mr. Wilbourn, accompanied by a lawyer, turned himself in and was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in the shooting of Officer Sean Bolton.

A man from the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee was arrested this week after police said he drove into the District with a pickup full of weapons and a propane tank, then asked an officer for directions to the White House.
