A new law requiring New York businesses to clearly display the total cost of purchasing items with a credit card — including any surcharges — is in full swing. As of Sunday, businesses in the Empire State are required to disclose any additional credit card surcharges before a customer begins to check out. The businesses can either post the total price, inclusive of the credit card surcharges, or list the different prices for both card and cash payments for items. “As more New Yorkers use credit cards and EBT [electronic benefit transfer] products to purchase goods and services, pricing transparency...

Is anyone else experiencing this? Hubby is employed and we get health insurance through his employer. I am an "insured dependent" and not being charged - so MY non-vaxx status doesn't matter (evidently). He, however, is paying a surcharge for not being vaccinated - to the tune of $100/mo. He has had COVID twice and certainly should be considered "naturally immune", at this point. We have written to HR (who seems to be the point of contact for this) protesting the surcharge, sent a Dr's letter saying he (our Dr) does not recommend the shot for my husband (our Dr...

Amazon said Wednesday that for the first time in company history it will charge sellers a 5% fuel and inflation surcharge. The e-commerce giant said the new fee will begin April 28 and is being imposed because inflation has worsened significantly in recent months. “In 2022, we expected a return to normalcy as Covid-19 restrictions around the world eased, but fuel and inflation have presented further challenges,” Amazon wrote in memo that was provided to CNN by the company. “It is unclear if these inflationary costs will go up or down, or for how long they will persist, so rather...

New York City residents may be looking at paying a $3 surcharge for online package deliveries to aid the failing Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). In an op-ed for the Daily News, John Samuelsen International President for the Transport Workers Union and Brooklyn Assemblyman Robert Carroll said the MTA’s budget crisis could be resolved with a new measure – a fee that would reportedly raise more than $1 billion a year. “We do not have to accept as inevitable the laying off of thousands of transit workers who have already endured and sacrificed so much keeping NYC moving, and functioning, during...

Girding for the second minimum wage hike in six months and the fourth in 2-½ years, many of San Diego’s full-service restaurants are introducing for the first time an average surcharge of 3 percent of the meal’s cost to help cover increased labor expenses that some operators say amount to hundreds of...

Pizza Shop Ditches Obamacare Surcharge After One DayPARK SLOPE: A day after announcing it would implement a three percent "Affordable Care Act surcharge" to pay for employees' health care, a popular local pizza joint said it'll remove the charge from menus because some customers viewed it as "anti-Obamacare," owners said. Franny's on Flatbush Avenue raised prices and added the surcharge Tuesday in an effort to give more money to their cooking staff and pay for employer-mandated health care required by the ACA, they said.

HANCOCK PARK (CBSLA.com) — A local restaurant has added a surcharge to every tab in order to pay for its employees’ healthcare. République, located on La Brea, is emerging as one of LA’s more popular, newer restaurants. However, the three percent surcharge is bringing about mixed reactions from the restaurant’s customers. One critic on the review site, Yelp, claimed: “It’s not MY responsibility to take care of YOUR employees’ healthcare… that’s YOUR job.” “Everyone has the same policy that I do as the owners,” owner and chef Walter Manske said. “And we offer it to everyone; (the) dishwasher, busboy, waiters,...

**SNIP** Smith said the inauguration of the Obamacare exchanges reveals that many health insurance plans throughout the nation will include abortion on demand—even late term abortions. Smith recalled that in October 2009, President Obama said in a speech to a joint session of Congress that, “under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortion… .” A week after the Obamacare rollout, many are now discovering that—contrary to solemn promises made by the President himself—Obamacare violates the Hyde Amendment by funding plans that include abortion. “The new law requires premium payers to be assessed an abortion surcharge every...
