  • How Donald Trump Kept Marco Rubio at Bay in Virginia

It looks like Rubio carried the state’s wealthy northern suburbs, and Trump took the rest. (SNIP) Rubio’s strongholds overlapped heavily with those that lifted Barack Obama to his second straight win in the state in his 2012 reelection race.
  • Super Tuesday Debrief, Primary Results and Anticipated GOPe Reactions….

    03/02/2016 5:38:13 AM PST · by Bratch · 43 replies
The election results are linked and discussed HERE, so we’re not going to go into depth and repeat the information other than to pull out some results to showcase the next phases.  Overall it was a good night for Donald Trump with seven state wins. (Delegate Count Link) However, that’s done.  The more important aspects are: A.) what those results mean and B.) what comes next. To grasp the meaning we must first remind and reinforce the basic structure of this election because everything is dependent on predicting the future by understanding the past; that means understanding the origin and intents of the GOPe design. Always remember the...
  • Rupblicans Choose Change On Super Tuesday

Super Tuesday was defined by change. The Democrats have had enough change. Solid majorities in key states said that they did not want a more liberal candidate than Obama. The one major exception was Vermont which went for Bernie Sanders. Sanders also won Oklahoma where around a third backed a turn even further left than Obama. But beyond them, there was no great appetite for outsiders.

Now that we have the results from Super Tuesday a weakness is starting to show in Donald Trump's support. He seems to be mainly an East Coast Candidate. There have now been seven states that have voted west of the Mississippi. Of these seven elections Trump has only won two (Nevada, and Arkansas) while he has lost five (Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Minnesota, and Alaska).
  • Lindsey Graham: GOP may have to rally around Ted Cruz

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says the Republican Party may be forced to support presidential hopeful Ted Cruz in order to stop front-runner Donald Trump. "You know Ted Cruz is not my favorite, by any means,” Graham, who dropped his own bid for the White House in December, said in an interview with CBS. “But we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump, and I'm not so sure that would work.” His comments came with Super Tuesday results indicating Trump would win as many as eight states....
  • GOP Governors Hold Emergency Conference Call to Discuss Trump

Top Republicans — including governors who convened an emergency conference call on Monday on which Trump was Topic A — expect the real estate mogul to carry as many as 10 states on Tuesday night, an outcome that would deal a body blow to Sen. Ted Cruz, who has staked his campaign heavily on the Southern states holding nominating contests, and to Sen. Marco Rubio, who has yet to win a primary and isn’t expected to do so on Tuesday.” “Trump’s march to the nomination has set off a wave of anxiety across the Republican Party establishment as top officials...
  • Donald Trump Overwhelms G.O.P. Rivals From Alabama to Massachusetts

Donald J. Trump won sweeping victories across the South and in New England on Tuesday, a show of strength in the Republican primary campaign that underscored the breadth of his appeal and helped him begin to amass a wide delegate advantage despite growing resistance to his candidacy among party leaders. Mr. Trump’s political coalition — with his lopsided victories in Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts and Tennessee, and narrower ones in Arkansas and Virginia — appears to have transcended the regional and ideological divisions that have shaped the Republican Party in recent years. With strong support from low-income white voters, especially those...
  • The Trump Coalition (The GOP Front-Runner’s Base Is Broad And Durable)

But Trump’s relative weakness doesn’t mean he’s vulnerable. While Trump isn’t as strong as previous front-runners, his coalition has a similar shape. Take Virginia, a varied state where Trump won with 34.7 percent of the vote. The Washington D.C. suburbs aside, Trump won every region of the state, from exurban Northern Virginia and the central region of the state, to the vote-rich, eastern Tidewater and the Richmond metropolitan area. More important than that, however, is the ideological and socio-economic shape of his coalition. Trump won “very conservative” and “somewhat conservative” voters in Virginia, and placed second with self-described Republican moderates....

Said this before, but given his role in the 1994 conservative revival in Congress, the eventual Gingrich endorsement of Trump will cause the right much, much more grief than tough-guy opportunist Chris Christie’s has. He blamed Marco Rubio for some of that mudslinging, saying the Florida senator’s personal attacks on Trump after last Thursday’s debate may have backfired. “I suspect it hurt Rubio,” Gingrich says. “Rubio’s not an attack dog. Chris Christie’s an attack dog. Christie knows how to do that, Rubio doesn’t. And Rubio ends up, I think, looking silly.”Gingrich also chided Republicans suggesting they won’t get behind Trump...
