A number of US marines have been killed and others seriously wounded in a suicide bomb attack on a military checkpoint in Baghdad. US marines spokesman Major Matt Baker said that "some" servicemen had been killed, although he could not say how many. US marines who said they witnessed the incident told our correspondent that an Iraqi man had approached the checkpoint and detonated a number of grenades. IDF forces this afternoon thwarted an attempted terrorist attack at the Erez Crossing. An armed Palestinian was spotted approaching the Erez industrial area. At least eight people were killed Wednesday morning when a powerful bomb wrecked an Israeli bus near Haifa in northern Israel, police said. The head of the Magen David Adom first aid service, Avi Zohar, said ambulances evacuated 16 people, some of whom were in critical condition.
