Presidential candidate Julian Castro says there's an easy explanation for Megan Rapinoe's standoff with President Trump, and it won't change until 1600 Penn. gets a new resident. Castro joined us on "TMZ Live" and said there's some pretty clear symbolism to Megan and the U.S. Women's Soccer Team skipping White House photo ops. He says it's simply a byproduct of Trump's "horrendous" and "divisive" policies.

f you have ever watched the Tour de France or even been a casual cycling fan, you have heard the voices of Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett on commentary. Liggett on play-by-play and Sherwen on analysis and color commentary, were one of the great announcing partnerships in sports. The two worked together on many cycling races, including 33 editions of the Tour de France. That partnership sadly ended as Paul Sherwen died of heart failure last December at the age of 62. Before getting into broadcasting, Sherwen was a pro cyclist throughout the 1970s and 80s and specialized in climbing...

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the basketball league will stop using the term "owner" to describe the owners of the teams. "We are sensitive to the feelings of the Black millionaires who make up the overwhelming majority of our players," the Commissioner said. "Given the racist history of America it is deplorable that we have been using this term." Silver acknowledged that "we haven't yet settled on a specific replacement terminology. Some have suggested 'overseers' while others favor 'bloated plutocrats.' I think we'll be doing some market research with polls and focus groups to try to find the right language...

With the well-earned success of the Women’s Soccer Team in France, Megan Rapinoe has been much in the news. Soccer fans are focused on the goals and team play that has gotten the women two games away from the World Cup. On the other hand, those, like me, who cannot give a fat rat’s backside about soccer have been stunned by her display of selfishness.

President Trump on Wednesday told Acting Secretary of Defense Mark Esper to come up with a policy that would allow athletes enrolled in military academies to play professional sports upon graduation. The policy would be a rollback from what the Trump administration enacted in 2017, according to The Hill. “Highly talented cadets and midshipmen who receive the extraordinary benefits of an education from an Academy or through a ROTC program at taxpayer expense should be able to both take advantage of the short window of time during which playing professional sports is realistically possible, while also honoring the commitment they...

In a bid to corner the transgender vote, 2020 presidential contender former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Tex) vowed to "break down the doors of girls' locker rooms across the nation and let boys who identify as girls participate in girls' sports." "I am aware that many parents are uncomfortable with this next step in the evolution of sexual freedom, but we can't allow prejudice to tie our hands," the candidate said. "Many boys feel uncomfortable trying to compete with other boys. I know because I was one of them. If I had had the same options as the boys of today...

It’s striking how quickly the culture can change. Just a short time ago, surely few would’ve believed that a common viewpoint — that it would be unfair to let guys take away athletic victories from girls by allowing them to compete in women’s sports — would be labeled the result of an irrational fear. Yet here we are: What was considered common sense and common goodness is now a symptom of mental illness. “Transphobia” has gotten so much traction, in fact, that Brazil just criminalized it — it’s punishable by a half decade in prison. See my coverage of that...

To say the Patriots are a dominant team is an understatement. In 2019 they’ll wrap up the most dominant decade in NFL history. In the decade of 2010 to 2018, the Patriots are 129-37, a winning percentage of .777. NEW ORLEANS – Of course. Could it have been any other way? When Adam Vinatieri lined up for a 48-yard field goal, seven seconds remained in a most remarkable game on a most remarkable night. Despite the odds, despite the opposition, was there any team other than the one wearing red, white and blue, the team called the Patriots, for goodness sakes, that would triumph in the first post-Sept. 11 Super Bowl? Of course not. Moments earlier, the Rams had thrust their dagger, scoring the game-tying touchdown, and the first overtime in Super Bowl history beckoned. But the Patriots, truly...

President Trump might famously be obsessed with the size of his hands, but it was his large foot size that nearly caused an international incident. Shinsuke Sugiyama, Japan’s ambassador to the United States, spilled a little bit of behind-the-scenes tea from Trump’s recent visit to Japan during his remarks on Wednesday at the National Gallery of Art’s press preview of its new show, “The Life of Animals in Japanese Art.” Sugiyama described the president and first lady’s attendance at a sumo match last month, and said the couple seemed very interested in the traditional event. But the president’s presence posed...
