Leading outdoor apparel brand The North Face has partnered with a “drag queen” in advance of LGBTQIA2s+ Pride Month, even selling children’s clothing daubed in gay rainbow colors, as part of its “Out in Nature” collection. “Hi, it’s me, Pattie Gonia, a real-life homosexual,” a mustachioed man says in their new ad, as he announces the Summer of Pride tour for The North Face, a subsidiary of the VF Corporation which also owns brands such as Supreme, Vans, and Timberland. It started with a nice gesture. Adam Anderson, the CEO of Innovex Downhole Solutions, wanted to buy his employees a Christmas gift. So he ordered 400 North Face jackets and asked that their corporate logo be included. Then came the bad news. The North Face company would sell Innovex the jackets but wouldn't include the energy company's logo. The reason? Innovex was an oil and gas company, and it would be a bad thing for North Face's public image to associate itself with the industry. Not happy with that answer, Anderson struck back with some public relations of his own....

The North Face Apparel Co., more commonly known as The North Face, recently filed suit against Jimmy Winkelmann, a 19-year old high school student and his small Missouri clothing company called The South Butt. North Face's statement of claim alleges trademark infringement and dilution, among other claims. North Face sells athletic apparel and gear for runners, rock climbers, snowboarders and others. South Butt sells jackets, T-shirts and other apparel "approved for relaxation purposes only." Winkelmann says his intent was not to rip off the North Face, but to offer consumers an alternative.
