Smoking has surpassed injecting as the most common way of taking drugs in U.S. overdose deaths, a new government study suggests. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention called its study published Thursday the largest to look at how Americans took the drugs that killed them. CDC officials decided to study the topic after seeing reports from California suggesting that smoking fentanyl was becoming more common than injecting it. Potent, illicit versions of the painkiller are involved in more U.S. overdose deaths than any other drug.

More than half of smokers in the United States believe they are discriminated against, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. Of those who feel discriminated against, 13 percent of smokers say they feel this way every day and 8 percent feel it every week. Fourteen percent of smokers feel discriminated against less than once a year, and 44 percent of smokers do not feel discriminated against at all. Officials at Ohio University are considering mandatory classes for students who get caught smoking on campus as part of a draconian ban on smoking for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year. The ban will outlaw every use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes on any part of the 1,850-acre public university campus, reports The Athens News, the local newspaper.

I have been concerned that so many of our soldiers seem to smoke. This includes the woman at the Abu Gaibe (sp?) imprisonment camp. Don't you think that it would be better if this were restricted, at least to when they they are not on duty? That way, it would be be safer, both for them and for those around them.

Anti-smoking groups have charged that tobacco companies, particularly Reynolds American Inc., are luring teenagers into the smoking habit by offering flavored cigarettes and advertising them in magazines with heavy adolescent readership like Rolling Stone, Glamour and Elle.
