Promising to help America’s middle class, President Barack Obama on Monday sent Congress a record $4 trillion budget that would hammer corporate profits overseas and raise taxes on the wealthy while boosting tax credits for families and the working poor. Obama’s budget also would steer hundreds of billions of dollars to the nation’s crumbling infrastructure of roads and bridges, help provide two years of free community college and reverse the across-the-board, automatic budget cuts that have slammed the Pentagon and nearly every government department. In the face of certain opposition from Republicans, an optimistic Obama hailed a “breakthrough year for...

President Barack Obama’s budget will propose an ambitious six-year, $478 billion public works program of highway, bridge and transit upgrades, half of it financed with a one-time mandatory tax on profits that U.S. companies have amassed overseas, White House officials said. The proposal, one of the main components of the $4 trillion spending plan for the 2016 budget year that Obama will send to Congress on Monday, attempts to tap into bipartisan support for spending on badly needed infrastructure repairs and construction. The tax on accumulated foreign profits would be set at 14 percent and due immediately. Under current law,...

BUFFALO - As temperatures near Buffalo, N.Y., rose above freezing on Saturday, volunteers fanned out to help their neighbours clear the walls of snow that have paralyzed parts of the region this week, but the warming trend also raised the threat of flooding. More than 200 volunteers, called the Shovel Brigade Mob, armed themselves with shovels and headed into neighbourhoods south of downtown Buffalo. The group said some residents were still stuck in their homes, days after a lake-effect system clobbered the region with up to seven feet of snow.

Even the weather refuses to cooperate with Obama. So who can blame the GOP for spurning him? That’s how much he’s been abandoned by the fates. And we pay the price for his gamble on his destiny, his legacy, his lie. It’s ironic that at a time when Wall Street has been adjusting expectations for the economy because of moderately cold weather—like THAT’s never happened before-- Obama is banging the drum for more draconian cuts to our great American-supplied fossil fuels. He cites global warming as the culprit. “President Obama is putting global warming in the spotlight this week, using...

The Department of Transportation (DOT) released a report this past Tuesday showing that the Highway Trust Fund will run out of money by this August. The fund is the primary way by which the government maintains our roads and highways. While the fund received a $9.7 billion dollar infusion from the General Fund just after the start of this fiscal year, the fund’s outlays continue to outpace receipts and it will soon be in the red. To be sure, part of the reason for this is that transportation infrastructure costs are on the rise. As the highways built in the...

Will he pivot (again) to job creation? Will there be another major, and unattainable, goal set forth tonight? Will President Barack Obama call on Congress to “work together”? Well… Yeah. In fact, I have been told by very dependable sources, that Obama’s teleprompter will randomly jumble together “highlights” from past speeches for tonight’s State of the Union. And, assuming the word corpsmen is spelled out phonetically, everything should run smoothly. Our cut-and-paste President is expected to underscore his desire to act imperially without the cumbersome process of representative government. He is expected to “address” the income inequality that got worse...

Obama’s top economic advisors (yes. . . He actually has a couple of those lying around the White House) did some common-core style math, and have calculated that the [partial] government shutdown earlier this month will end up costing the economy over 120,000 private sector jobs. Who’d have thought closing down a DC memorial to WWII vets could cause so much economic havoc? Our Campaigner-in-Chief’s Council of Economic Advisors announced that the [partial] government shutdown slimdown will result in a 0.25 percentage point reduction in GDP, and the loss of roughly 120,000 private sector jobs for the month of October....

President Obama pushed for "putting some hard hats back to work" on infrastructure jobs at a campaign event in Mansfield, Ohio on Wednesday. Obama, who admitted "shovel-ready was not as shovel-ready as we expected" last June, is encouraging funding for rebuilding the nation's infrastructure, a key component in his 2009 stimulus. "If we’re investing in roads and bridges, putting some hard hats back to work, getting our steel workers back to work, they got some more money to spend. Maybe they buy that new computer. Maybe they decide to take a little vacation. And all that money circulates in the...

The population of the District of Columbia is growing faster than that of any state in the country, according to a new U.S. Census report that shows an acceleration of a trend in which largely skilled and educated workers have flocked to the city’s resilient local economy and its well-paying jobs connected to the federal government. The city added 16,000 residents between April 2010 and July of this year, more than half as many as it added in the entire previous decade, the report said. In all, the District has added more than 45,000 residents since 2000, the nadir of...

Hundreds Show Up For Bogus Job Fair May 4, 2011 1:10 PM DETROIT (WWJ) – A text message promised a job fair that was supposed to be held Wednesday morning by Chrysler at Detroit’s Lafayette Tower. Crowds of people reportedly showed up – only to find out there never was such an event. That included a client of Corrinda Washington, program director of Michigan Legal Services. She told WWJ Newsradio 950 her client borrowed money for a ride to what she thought would be a shot at finding work. “She said there were hundreds of people, that there were people...

"Mr. Obama reflects on his presidency, admitting that he let himself look too much like “the same old tax-and-spend Democrat,” realized too late that “there’s no such thing as shovel-ready projects” and perhaps should have “let the Republicans insist on the tax cuts” in the stimulus."...

Like a terrible remake of Groundhog Day, the White House has unveiled yet another so-called stimulus scheme. Actually, they have two new proposals to buy votes with our money. One plan is focused on more infrastructure spending, as reported by Politico. Seeking to bolster the sluggish economy, President Barack Obama is using a Labor Day appearance in Milwaukee to announce he will ask Congress for $50 billion to kick off a new infrastructure plan designed to expand and renew the nation’s roads, railways and runways. …The measures include the “establishment of an Infrastructure Bank to leverage federal dollars and focus on...
