WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., proposed a resolution Wednesday that warns climate change and ensuing natural disasters will force millions of vulnerable and poverty-stricken women to engage in “transactional sex” in order to provide their families with adequate food and water. Lee’s House Concurrent Resolution 29 says that food and water scarcity will be exacerbated by the effects of climate change, forcing increased “conflict and instability” that will particularly affect the strain on women farmers “who are estimated to produce 60 to 80 percent of the food in most developing countries.” “[F]ood insecure women with limited socioeconomic...

When was the last time anyone heard a sermon that condemned the evils of fornication, or adultery, or cohabitation, or divorce, or bearing children outside wedlock (let alone homosexuality)? Controlling these sins is a core Christian value. At one time a preacher could be expected to devote extended attention to these sins. And he could be expected to condemn them unequivocally. Yet today, even as the social and economic fallout from precisely these practices becomes ever more glaring and serious, pastors and priests seem ever more determined to avoid discussing them.Of course, the dowdy old parson long ago became the...

Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration reportedly had “sex parties” with prostitutes hired by drug cartels in Colombia, according to a new inspector general report released by the Justice Department on Thursday. In addition, Colombian police officers allegedly provided “protection for the DEA agents’ weapons and property during the parties,” the report states. Ten DEA agents later admitted attending the parties, and some of the agents received suspensions of two to 10 days. The stunning allegations are part of an investigation by the Justice Department’s inspector general into claims of sexual harassment and misconduct within DEA; FBI; the Bureau of...

People Who Don't Want Women to See Ultrasounds of their Babies – What Are They Thinking?   He's a really nice guy. George Leventhal, Montgomery County Maryland Council President, likes puppies. Presumably he loves babies…born ones, that is. What motivates a nice guy like George, to want to impede women seeing their babies' ultrasounds? Ultrasounds aren't exactly cute, but people do get excited about them. We can't presume to know George's thinking, but it's still important to try to understand what people who take his position have in mind.  It may be true, not necessarily in George's case, but on average, that...

Some ethicists argue sexbots will improve our lives by ending prostitution and sex trafficking, and by fulfilling human needs. The Christian Post spoke with three Christians who have written on topics related sex and human relationships and technology to get their take on the issue. The technology required to make a sexbot, or a robot designed for sexual relations with a human, is quickly becoming available, and some companies are already working toward that goal. First, robotics companies are already working toward designing robots that can move like humans and respond to humans with facial expressions. Second, there are several...

One month after the State Ethics Commission ruled that sex between lobbyists and government officials doesn’t constitute a gift, a bipartisan group of N.C. House members filed legislation Tuesday to make it clear that sexual and romantic relationships are indeed a conflict of interest. House Bill 252 would require legislators and other government officials to recuse themselves if they’re in a “current dating relationship or current sexual relationship” with a lobbyist who stands to benefit from the issue at hand. While the legislation doesn’t offer a definition of a “current sexual relationship,” it does provide one for a “current dating...

Editors Note: This is the third in a 10-part series that Matt is writing. Questions one and two can be read by clicking the hyperlinks. Today's question is: I have at least a dozen friends whose Christian kids, mostly sons, have come out to them in the past 18 months. For the church to tell a 16-year-old that "God's will" is a life void of romance is a tough message to communicate. What's your answer? What an important question this is. I had previously decided to answer a different question today, but when this one came rolling into my inbox...

Thousands of Americans, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and famed evangelist Franklin Graham, have come to the defense of a chaplain who could be thrown out of the Navy because of his Christian faith. Lt. Cmdr. Wes Modder has been accused of failing to show “tolerance and respect” in private counseling sessions regarding issues pertaining to faith, marriage and sexuality – specifically homosexuality. Modder, who is endorsed by the Assemblies of God, has also been accused of being unable to “function in the diverse and pluralistic environment” of the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, S.C. The...

Weiner sext gal Sydney Leathers lands in new political scandal By Richard Johnson Sydney Leathers — the woman who finished off Anthony Weiner’s political career with a sexting scandal — has struck again. This time she’s exposed the kinky fetishes of a Democratic state legislator in the Midwest who responded as “Bitch Boy” when she advertised for a submissive she could “financially dominate.” Leathers, who lives in Evansville, Ind., said Bitch Boy was careful to never give her his name — he sent money to her through a prepaid PayPal card — but didn’t realize his name was on the...

**SNIP** Homelessness is a primary driver for LGBTQ teens turning to survival sex, according to the report. It cites national statistics showing that as many as 50 percent of homeless or runaway youth trade sex for shelter or for money to provide shelter for themselves, and that 48 percent of transgender people involved in sex work overall also report experiencing homelessness. A 2007 study of LGBTQ teens in New York revealed that LGBTQ youth were seven times more likely to have traded sex for shelter than heterosexual teens, and that transgender teens were eight times more likely. Researchers also found...

Quietly on Christmas Eve, the Obama administration changed the rules on handling refugee children who enter the country without their parents and report being victims of sexual assault. All refugee aid groups, including Catholic and other Christian groups, will now be required to refer those girls to facilities that provide abortions. Religious groups that work with refugees are concerned that the new rules may require them to give up federal funding. Dr. Susan Yoshihara of the New York and Washington DC-based Center for Family & Human Rights (C-Fam) first reported the change last week: “Faith-based groups say this is a...

The University of Colorado has agreed to pay a suspended male student $15,000 and will not disclose without a waiver the details of his disciplinary record — which includes convictions under the campus judicial process in a 2013 sexual assault case. The agreement was made with the CU junior known only as "John Doe," as he identified himself — with a judge's permission — when he sued the university last year under Title IX, the federal gender-equity law. The university will not reveal his identity to the public and agreed to provide John Doe with a positive reference. John Doe...

IN a society where almost every cultural phenomenon ends up interpreted through an ideological lens, the success de scandale of “Fifty Shades of Grey” — the books, the movie, the branded cuffs and whips — has left culture warriors a little bit confused. Is this another transgressive breakthrough — the latest blow to whatever remains of traditional morality, the mainstreaming of a lifestyle long locked away from view? Or is the now-famous story, with its alpha male gazillionaire and his punished female prize, actually a reactionary fairy tale, encouraging submission to the latest version of the patriarchy? The answer, of...

The film 50 Shades of Grey is likely to be financially successful no matter what. The film—which is likely the first part of a new franchise—is an adaptation of the unbelievably popular E.L. James novel. Few would’ve guessed a few short years ago that there was a huge untapped market for this type of story, which originated as Twilight fan fiction. But there undeniably was a big market for this. Millions and millions and millions of copies were sold. The book became a massive bestseller and the new cinematic adaptation of it will likely dominate—pardon the pun—the box office this...

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — Trucker Kevin Kimmel is a father and grandfather. He says several things about a RV parked in the Pilot Truck lot in New Kent caught his attention. The biggest red flag was catching a glimpse of a distraught looking girl who abruptly disappeared behind a black curtain, that’s when he quickly called police. “I only learned the gruesome details through the news,” Kimmel said. Kimmel was inside his rig, parked behind the Pilot station. A couple of doors down he notices suspicious activity in the RV. “All of the sudden the thing was rocking and...

Sober Scriptural Wisdom on Avoiding the Whirlwind of Lust By: Msgr.
