Mayor Jean Quan vowed Wednesday to quickly reform the scandal-plagued Oakland Police Department after a frustrated judge threatened a federal takeover if it fails to quickly make good on changes agreed to nine years ago. U.S. District Judge Thelton Henderson said he "remains in disbelief" that the department has failed to adopt the reforms. Henderson's frustration with the pace of improvements was evident throughout a scathing five-page ruling issued Tuesday. "This department finds itself woefully behind its peers around the state and nation," he wrote. In his ruling, Henderson increased the oversight authority of a court-appointed monitor. Oakland Police Chief...

Exclusive: Separation of Powers Geoff MetcalfAuthor: Geoff Metcalf Source: The Family Security Foundation, Inc. Date: April 5, 2007Nearly a century ago, Teddy Roosevelt said, “It is not the critic who counts, not the one who points out how the strong man stumbled.” FSM Contributing Editor Geoff Metcalf brilliantly uses an interesting historical perspective to demonstrate the malfeasance and diffidence of current congressional representatives in doing their prescribed jobs. Will this Congress continue to hog-tie the president, imperiling our troops and endangering the country? Read what Geoff concludes. Separation of Powers By Geoff Metcalf “Courage overrides self-doubt, but does not end it.” --Mason...

We all know the simple phrase, "Keep it Simple, Stupid" and its usefulness in telling us where we go astray. IMHO, this is what Bush failed to understand on the immigration issue from his initial election, all the way through 9/11 and its impact on the issue, and on up to today. George Will very precisely pointed out (Restoration published 1996)that in the first 120 years of our history the office of the President was clearly understood to be similar to a Chief magistrate and not a Prime Minister setting a policy agenda for all branches. In his analysis, he...

http://redstate.org/story/2006/3/10/201225/705 House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Frist may announce as early as Sunday which allies will be permitted to assist the United States in the event that action must be taken against the growing threat from Iran. Congressional Republicans recently announced that the Congress will henceforth be managing relations with allies. The newly-created Congressional Diplomacy Office will take over from the State Department, fielding its own diplomats such as Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), who will work with foreign leaders to maintain and strengthen alliances. "Congress has long sought to micro-manage foreign policy, and the looming confrontation...

Do you want to make a change and see some justice? Congressman Tom DeLay said the House Judiciary Committee will be investigating Terri's case and making recommendations to the full house about any reforms that they believe are necessary in this debacle over Terri's life and death. This thread is to brainstorm, and to report what contacts we have made and the results. Below is a link to the committee members. Anyone who wants to help organize a ping list- SPEAK UP. We need someone to make a list of objectives and contacts. This thread is for activism. Plaintiffs charge Violations of Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, and a Widespread Corruption As we all learn by the 6th grade, Articles One through Three of the U.S. Constitution make provisions for the three separate and independent branches of the US government: the executive, legislative, and judicial. But how independent and separate are they really? – Three New Jersey residents, Bruce Eden, Barry Weinstein [1] and Steven Rosamilia have filed a lawsuit in the N.J. Superior Court, alleging Democrat party presidential nominees John F. Kerry and John Edwards, and the New Jersey State Democratic Committee, their co-defendant, violated Constitutional...

Article XXX. In the government of this commonwealth, the legislative department shall never exercise the executive and judicial powers, or either of them: the executive shall never exercise the legislative and judicial powers, or either of them: the judicial shall never exercise the legislative and executive powers, or either of them: to the end it may be a government of laws and not of men. ----CONSTITUTION OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS Maybe I'm missing something, but when the State Supreme Court of Mass. orders the Legislature to pass a law, are they not in direct violation of this article of...
