Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, underwent triple bypass heart surgery Monday and was expected to make a full recovery, his office said in a statement. The surgery was performed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., just outside Washington. Senator McConnell Undergoes Successful Triple Bypass (WASHINGTON, February 3rd, 2003, 2:30 p.m.) -- U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky underwent triple bypass heart surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, on Monday. A news release says Dr. Alan M. Speir, the Clinical Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Naval Medical Center, performed the procedure early Monday morning.
