US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will travel to Kyiv Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, for his first face-to-face meeting with members of President Biden’s cabinet since the Russian invasion began. “Tomorrow, the American officials are coming to visit us,” Zelensky said in a Saturday press conference.
  • Obama confesses: Secretaries pay lower tax rates than their bosses...

The AP reported last year that, contrary to President Obama's disingenuous claims, secretaries do not pay a higher tax rate than their bosses. "The data tell a different story [than Obama's]," the AP noted. "This year, households making more than $1 million will pay an average of 29.1 percent of their income in federal taxes. Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will pay 15 percent of their income in federal taxes. Lower-income households will pay less [5.7%, 12.5%, 15%]." Hence, it should come as no surprise that the President has finally confessed that he was twisting the facts all along....

And to think, up to one week ago Obama was vehemently opposed to super PACs. Via The Hill: Four Obama administration cabinet members suggested an openness to appearing at pro-Obama super-PAC events. iWatch News at the Center for Public Integrity reports that spokesmen for Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Energy Secretary Steven Chu suggested that their bosses would be willing to raise money for the super-PACs. A week earlier, after previously criticizing the legal ability of super-PACs to raise unlimited amounts money for their candidates, President Obama signed off on some...

Let's hope that Warren Buffet is better at managing funds than he is at tax policy. After Buffett complained that his secretary pays a higher tax rate than he does, Barack Obama decided to call his new class-warfare taxes “the Buffett Rule” and emphasize that he wants to make taxes more “fair.” But was Buffett right? According to an AP fact check — and just about every ounce of common sense that exists outside of the class-warfare fever swamps of the White House these days — not at all: “Middle-class families shouldn’t pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires,” Obama...
  • Do Secretaries Have a Future?

THE 1950s and ’60s brought many new things to American offices, including the Xerox machine, word processing and — perhaps less famously — the first National Secretaries Day, in 1952. Secretaries of that era envisioned a rosy future, and many saw their jobs as a ticket to a better life. In 1961, the trade magazine Today’s Secretary predicted that, 50 years hence, the “secretary of the future” would start her workday at noon and take monthlong vacations thanks to the “electronic computer.” According to another optimistic assessment, secretaries (transported through office hallways “via trackless plastic bubble”) would be in ever-higher...

WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2006 – President Bush discussed his plan for victory in Iraq with a group of former U.S. State and Defense Department chiefs during a White House meeting here today. "We have a dual-track strategy for victory. On one hand, we will work to have a political process that says to all Iraqis, 'The future belongs to you,'" Bush said in a statement released to reporters after the meeting. "And on the other hand, we'll continue to work on the security situation there." Bush said the key to success in Iraq is predicated on how quickly Iraq's new...
  • Bush to Change Economic Team

President Bush plans to overhaul his economic team for the second time in two years and wants to tap prominent figures outside the administration to help sell rewrites of Social Security and the tax laws to Congress and the country, White House aides and advisers said over the weekend. The aides said the replacement of four of the five top economic officials -- including the Treasury and Commerce secretaries, with only budget director Joshua B. Bolten likely to remain -- is part of Bush's preparation for sending Congress an ambitious second-term domestic agenda.
