I find most all vehicles interesting somehow -historically, artistically, or the technology- but was always more of a 'car guy' than into bikes. I've ridden a little but never actually owned a street bike of any sort. So forgive me if I'm out-of-it but I never even heard of the 1981-83 'Honda Motocompo' portable motorcycle until last week, just stumbled across it on the net.  Seems to have quite a following, and the dandy lil' 50cc scooter-ish thing was meant to be ordered along with new cars (in Japan) too, where it could be purchased as an option- it fit neatly...

Nicholas Pinto may be one year away from high school, but he’s already doing big business. The 13-year-old says he’s always loved scooters, but was frustrated by how quickly the wheels would break. “As you develop your skills, like landing on the scooter harder when you’re going off of a ramp, what you want is for the parts not to break,” says Pinto, who lives with his parents and three siblings in Cranford, New Jersey. He says he was spending a lot of money replacing the wheels every few weeks. “I was saying, ‘Wow, this can’t be!’ I was trying...

“The Vespa 150 TAP is a Vespa scooter modified for use with paratroops. Introduced in 1956 and updated in 1959, it had a U.S.-made light anti-armour cannon. Roughly 800 of these scooters were deployed in the Algerian War.”

An early morning game of drunken bumper cars--using Walmart handicap scooters--was broken up Saturday morning by Louisiana cops who arrested a 22-year-old man who copped to driving to the store while intoxicated. Officers with the West Monroe Police Department arrived at the Walmart around 2:30 AM in response to a call about a disturbance. Store management told cops that a group of intoxicated suspects were “playing ‘bumper cars’ with the handicap scooters in the store,” according to a probable cause affidavit. A police sergeant contacted Christopher Butler, who appeared “very intoxicated.” Butler, pictured at right, admitted driving his 2004 Ford...

  • Man in Scooter Rams Elevator Doors & Falls Into Shaft

    01/29/2011 2:00:28 PM PST · by Freepmanchew · 54 replies
An angry man riding a mobility scooter plunged to his death, after he rammed an elevator door. The unfortunate incident happened at a shopping center in Daejon, South Korea. The 40 year old man who's name was Lee, obviously had a problem with his anger. That anger, for what ever reason, has been his undoing. You will see the man reach the elevator just after the woman inside pressed the button to go down. Seconds after the doors closed, Mr Lee reached the elevator and actually ran into the doors because he must have anticipated that the woman would...

"Could [I] have misspoken? Yes, I am male, I'm over 50. By definition, I can misspeak." - Ambassador Joe Wilson, in a July 18, 2004, interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer."Given the incredible pace and scope of my work during that [relevant] period and the subsequent passage of time, I simply did not recall the sequence of events. ... I had completely forgotten [who had suggested a key idea]. I had forgotten [who received a call from whom]. ... I had answered all the questions truthfully, and to the best of my ability. DETROIT — Pontiac, the brand that invented the muscle car under its flamboyant engineer John Z. DeLorean, helped Burt Reynolds elude Sheriff Justice in “Smokey and the Bandit” and taught baby boomers to salivate over horsepower, but produced mostly forgettable cars for their children, will endure a lonely death on Sunday after about 40 million in sales. It was 84 years old. The cause of death was in dispute. Fans said Pontiac’s wounds were self-inflicted, while General Motors blamed a terminal illness contracted during last year’s bankruptcy. Pontiac built its last car nearly a year ago, but the official end...

A police force facing savage budget cuts has announced a crackdown on the menace of the mobility scooter driver. Officers have launched a course to combat the scourge of the lawless silver-haired scooter rider as the number of accidents on the roads rise. They may not be joyriding teenagers any more, but officers say pensioners on mobility scooters can be just as dangerous with many being caught drunk or high on prescription drugs behind the wheel.   (edit)   He said: 'People can just buy a mobility scooter, sometimes off the internet or somewhere else, and literally just get...

While the most transparent administration in history continues to stonewall Congress on its legal theories for supporting a would-be dictator in Honduras, dismissing a civil-rights case against nightstick-wielding Black Panthers, and flouting the plain language of the Constitution on the D.C. Voting Rights Bill, it’s time once again to check in on the president’s equally laughable commitment to disinfect the Justice Department, removing all traces of political taint. When it was Scooter Libby in the crosshairs, Democrats were awfully sanctimonious about the grave felony of lying to the FBI. (snip)Meet Stephanie Villafuerte. Eileen Bishop said she was "half asleep" when the scooter charged off An 87-year-old Cornish woman was rescued by police five miles from home when her mobility scooter sped off out of control. Eileen Bishop, from Perranporth, and her husband Anthony were on their way to church when, he said, she "disappeared off the radar". Officers later found her heading along the A3075 towards Newquay. A police community support officer (PCSO) rode the scooter back and said it appeared to be working correctly. 'Full tilt' Mr Bishop said the incident began when he and his wife set off for St...

There seems to be a trend among manufacturers to design motorcycles for people who don't really like them. It's no surprise, then, that Honda, the world's largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, wants in on this nontraditional crowd. This is, after all, the "you meet the nicest people" company that virtually invented the concept of motorcycling as a mass-market pastime. Now it wants to broaden those horizons further, and it sees a niche smack dab between the loafer-wearing scooter crowd and those preening, leather-shod bikers. Its solution is the DN-01 ($17,499). While it looks like a motorcycle (well, sort of ), it...

AP Piaggio MP3 Hybrid The Chevy Volt just had a little of its thunder stolen. Paolo Timoni, President and CEO of Piaggio Group Americas — maker of the Piaggio and Vespa brands of motor scooters — confirmed to FOXNews.com that the company is planning to sell a plug-in hybrid version of one of its vehicles in the United States starting in early 2010. If the gas-electric scooter makes it into showrooms on schedule, it will be the first plug-in hybrid vehicle to go on sale in the U.S., beating the Volt to market by several months, at least.

WASHINGTON - In the waning days of the Bush administration, Vice President Dick Cheney launched a last-ditch campaign to persuade his boss to pardon Lewis (Scooter) Libby - and was furious when President George W. Bush wouldn't budge. Sources close to Cheney told the Daily News the former vice president repeatedly pressed Bush to pardon Libby, arguing his ex-chief of staff and longtime alter ego deserved a full exoneration - even though Bush had already kept Libby out of jail by commuting his 30-month prison sentence. "He tried to make it happen right up until the very end," one Cheney...

As the curtain closes on the presidency of George W. Bush, the one loose end dangling is the pardon of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby. In 2007 Mr. Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, was convicted for perjury and obstruction of justice. Let us be clear about the Bush legacy. After September 11, not a year into Mr. Bush's term, his became a war presidency. George Bush's place in history will turn on what becomes of Iraq and al Qaeda. If Iraq fails, history will mark down the Bush presidency. If by fits and starts Iraq grows into the...

Chris Bishop has bittersweet memories of the Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Celebration. The 46-year-old advertising professional remembers cruising to a street party in 2003 on his 1984 Honda Aero and squeezing the scooter into a row of parking spaces overflowing with muscular Softails and Fat Boys. "I went down to Water Street and parked it down there, and everybody was smiling, and everyone wanted to hop on the back," Bishop said. "It's motorbike culture. You could be cooler if you had (a Harley), but you're still cool." So much for the sweet. Now for the bitter. "I don't think I'd do...

Which gets better gas mileage, a Hummer or a scooter? No contest. But which is more polluting? It may not be what you think. "It's true. The cleanest scooter is still dirtier than a car," said John Swanton, air pollution specialist with the California Air Resources Board.
