British industrialist Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Industrials on Monday reopened a shuttered South Carolina steel plant in a move that will allow his U.K.-based firm to circumvent the Trump administration’s 25% tariffs on steel imports. Liberty Steel, a London-based company owned by Gupta’s group, held a relaunch ceremony at Georgetown Steel Mill on Monday. The mill originally closed in 2015 and was acquired by Liberty House in 2017, the Myrtle Beach Sun News reported. Liberty Steel said the facility would employ about 125 workers at launch and more than 300 workers in the “medium term,” according to a press release. GFG...

West Columbia, South Carolina (CNN)It was fitting that President Donald Trump chose his rally in South Carolina Monday night to thank film director David Lynch for his recently announced support. Lynch, who is best known for such cinematic trips into the surreal as "Blue Velvet" and "Wild at Heart," could not have directed the scene any better. I felt like I was in one of his movies. Approximately three hours before Trump took the stage in West Columbia, an elderly woman walked right up to me and ordered me to leave the venue. Her language would likely make her grandkids...

Her injuries from a high-speed car crash Friday night had been severe and traumatic: Two rib fractures. A colon injury. Two small bowel injuries. Injuries to her iliac artery. Bleeding from her abdominal wall. And spinal injuries that included a fracture to her second vertebrae. The 47-year-old had undergone three surgeries, including two Sunday that together totaled nine hours. "Two weeks, and I'll be back at it!" she wrote. During a Monday morning press conference at the Medical University of South Carolina...

FBI agent Peter Strzok offered to testify before the House Judiciary Committee in a letter from his attorney released on Sunday. The letter was drafted by Strzok's attorney Aitan Goelman and was sent to House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). The letter comes amid reports that Goodlatte had begun initiating procedures to subpoena Strzok, who was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian election meddling after it was revealed he sent anti-Trump text messages during the 2016 presidential campaign. "While you are, of course, free to continue pursuing this process, it is wholly unnecessary," Goelman wrote in the...

Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Friday that he “doesn’t give a shit” about critics who don't like him working with President Trump. “If you don’t like me working with President Trump to make the world a better place, I don’t give a shit,” Graham told CNN’s “At This Hour.” Graham, who unsuccessfully ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016 and blasted Trump throughout the primary, said he trusts and likes the president. “I’ve got a relationship with the president at a time when he needs allies,” Graham said. The South Carolina senator has praised Trump for conducting missile strikes...

"GOP lawmaker Mark Sanford (S.C.) said the unyielding supporting Republicans are giving President Trump is a "cancerous growth" on the party. Sanford made the comments in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine two days after his defeat in Tuesday's South Carolina primary race. The outgoing congressman addressed public perception that he wasn't loyal enough to Trump and how it helped lead to this week's loss. "It is a cancerous growth," Sanford said. "The basis on which people's frustrations have been built is real and understandable in the way that at times Washington doesn't work for them or their families and...

One of South Carolina’s oldest cities may be apologizing for its prolific role in the U.S. slave trade, according to city documents. Charleston’s city council will consider a resolution “recognizing, denouncing and apologizing” for the role the South Carolina port city played in the slave trade, according to the council’s agenda. The formal apology will be considered for the first time on Juneteenth, a day aimed at celebrating the abolition of slavery. The resolution — which is scheduled for next Tuesday’s meeting — also says the city will commit to continuing to “pursue initiatives that honor the contributions of those...

Mark Sanford blew up his marriage and became a national laughingstock when he sneaked off his job as South Carolina governor for a tryst with his Argentine lover. After he forsook his presidential ambitions and spent time in political purgatory, voters forgave Sanford’s trespass and, in 2013, elected him their representative in Congress. But on Tuesday, Sanford was tossed from office by his Republican constituents for committing a far graver sin: criticizing President Trump. With his bulldozing personality, Trump has transformed the GOP from a party of anti-communist cold warriors to one that coos over North Korea’s communist dictator, from...

Archie Parnell, a Democratic congressional candidate in South Carolina, won the Democratic primary Tuesday night in a landslide weeks after it was publicly revealed that he abused his wife in the 1970s. Parnell, who has admitted to hurting his ex-wife, received 60 percent of the vote against his three Democratic opponents, according to Politico. This win comes after Parnell faced a wave of criticism in May when court records came to light showing he inflicted "acts of physical cruelty" on his spouse at the time. Parnell's ex-wife, Kathleen Parnell, said their marriage fell apart in 1973 after he made "unwarranted...

Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) appears to have lost his Tuesday primary, which became a referendum on his criticism of President Trump. State Rep. Katie Arrington, who hammered Sanford as a traitor to President Trump, is projected to win the GOP primary in a victory that may spell the end of Sanford’s long political career in the state. The Associated Press called the race at 12:09 a.m., with Arrington leading Sanford by 51-47 percent margin with 99 percent of precincts reporting. Sanford becomes the second incumbent to lose a reelection primary bid this cycle. Sanford had never lost an election until...
