SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (WRGB) — A Saratoga Springs city council adjourning early once again. This time, due to outrage over comments by the city’s Public Safety Commissioner, Jim Montagnino, surrounding a Restorative Justice resolution being voted on. This resolution acknowledges and apologizes for the city’s past racial injustices and, also, creates a Restorative Justice panel tasked with looking at the city’s race relations and what can be done to improve that. BLM made it clear to council members that restorative justice to them comes with dropping the charges against the three individuals charged.

SALT LAKE CITY — Capitalizing on her speech at the Republican National Convention and Utah campaign events featuring GOP stars, Mia Love raised more than twice as much money in the past quarter as Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson. ... Two Democratic organizations — House Majority PAC and Center Forward PAC — released a poll Monday showing Matheson with a 48 percent to 41 percent lead among likely 4th District voters. Love's poll by Public Opinion Strategies early last month had her up 51-36. Both Matheson and Love have discounted each other's numbers. A Deseret News/KSL survey in late September gave...

Mia Love Surges Ahead of Jim Matheson in Recent Poll Ramped up attack ads from Matheson signal desperation Saratoga Springs – A recent poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies indicates Mia Love has surged to a commanding 51-36% lead over Matheson. Mia’s message of reforming Washington is gaining widespread support from Utah voters, while Jim Matheson's support for Obama's policies have diminished his support for re-election. With Mia Love surging among voters, Jim Matheson and his allies have resorted to false and personal attacks. Matheson and his Washington allies have begun a deeply negative campaign, attacking Mia Love, her family...

Can Any of These House Underdogs Survive? Stuart Rothenberg June 8, 2012 · 1:48 PM EDT Remember their names: Reps. Charles Bass (R-N.H.), John Barrow (D-Ga.), Bobby Schilling (R-Ill.), Jim Matheson (D-Utah) and Robert Dold (R-Ill.). If any of these five House incumbents survive, it will surprise most dispassionate observers (including some in their own parties). But upsets happen, and each of these candidates has a scenario for victory. Moments after Bass was declared the winner in November 2010, most political insiders figured he would be doomed in 2012. But considering his past electoral success, reports of his political demise...

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- It all started last winter, with a faulty remote starter on her 1996 Chevrolet Lumina. Like many others, Sarah Dodge dreaded the thought of having to brave the elements to warm up her car before school. In today's world of high-tech gizmos, the 18-year-old senior at Saratoga Springs High School figured there had to be a better solution. Turns out, there was -- and now Sarah is the first student in a pre-engineering program at the school to have a federal patent pending, teacher Michael Gallagher said.

MALTA -- George Crum's name doesn't mean much to most people, even though his invention probably is eaten in the millions daily. Crum is credited with discovering the potato chip, slicing potatoes so thin they couldn't be picked up with a fork, then frying them.Crum supposedly created the chips spitefully in 1853, after a patron at Moon's Lake House didn't like his thick french fries. Now chips are eaten worldwide. That's what brought a crew from the German television show "Talents and Patents" to Malta and Saratoga Springs on Tuesday."It's the story of very basic things: glue, ballpoints. Nobody knows they...

(Rochester, NY - AP) - Winds gusting up to 77 miles per hour knocked out power to more than 200,000 homes and offices today and toppled trees onto a school bus, a car and a truck, killing a suburban Rochester woman and a state worker at a park in Saratoga Springs. A fierce storm swept across the Midwest and into the Northeast before dawn, sending temperatures in some parts of western New York plunging from 60 degrees to below freezing within a few hours. Downed or damaged power lines cut off electricity to at least 215,000 customers. A falling tree...

At Hamilton College... you can take... "Resistance Memoirs: Writing, Identity and Change."... Its teacher is Susan Rosenberg, formerly of the Weather Underground. ...Its self-described revolutionaries, mostly middle-class, dedicated themselves to supporting radical black causes and tearing apart American society in the 1970s and early 1980s. In 1970, they blew up a townhouse when a bomb detonated prematurely and killed a few of their troops. Kathy Boudin, Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn and other high-profile members of the group spent the next decade or so running from the police and, some of them, continuing to pursue careers in criminal violence.... Without Arnold Rothstein, the 1919 White Sox may have been known as a championship team, instead of as the team that threw the World Series. Author David Pietrusza tells a fascinating story in "Rothstein: The Life, Times and Murder of the Criminal Genius Who Fixed the 1919 World Series" (Carroll & Graf, $27). We are taken to the seedy New York underworld from where Rothstein financed gamblers who bribed eight White Sox players to throw the World Series to Cincinnati. The Reds won the series, then a best-of-nine format, in eight games. "Rothstein made lots of money betting on underdogs...
