  • Stop Wallowing in Sadness: Time for Rush Limbaugh's show to look toward the future again

I loved the Rush Limbaugh show. I have been listening to it for years and have always been comforted by his ever-increasing audience. It showed that conservative ideas work. The show serves a purpose — a purpose that we need fulfilled more now than ever. Unfortunately, it is not serving that purpose fully now. Rather than building on his legacy, we are wallowing in the sadness of his loss. The guest hosts are very good — especially Mark Steyn — but the show is deteriorating into a daily homage to Rush. Any tangential relationship with current subject matter is immediately...
  • ONE FINAL BOAST ON DEATH CERTIFICATE... 'Greatest Radio Host Of All Time'

Rush Limbaugh is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to radio hosts, and if you don't believe that ... just read his death certificate. According to the document, obtained by TMZ, the conservative firebrand host's occupation is right there in black and white -- "GREATEST RADIO HOST OF ALL TIME." That's some pretty high praise. It's high praise for Rush that many, including his pal Donald Trump, would agree with -- but of course, there's probably those who'd strongly disagree. Remember, Trump presented Rush with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his achievements in radio -- but Florida Governor Ron DeSantis...

Conservative radio pioneer Rush Limbaugh was laid to rest during a private ceremony at Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday, according to the Southeast Missourian. 97.1 FM TALK reports: Sources say the north St. Louis County cemetery was closed to the public for several hours Wednesday, as an estimated 40 family members and dignitaries had to clear security before being allowed through the gates. Many expected Limbaugh to be buried in his hometown of Cape Girardeau, Mo. Instead, he will rest in eternity alongside some of St. Louis’s most famous residents. Limbaugh’s widow, Kathryn, told the Southeast Missourian...

A statement from Kathryn Limbaugh and family said Rush Hudson Limbaugh III was honorably laid to rest Wednesday in St. Louis, with close immediate family in attendance. There will be additional celebrations of Rush's life to come both virtually and in his home town of Cape Girardeau, the statement said. It was later confirmed that Limbaugh was buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery, a historic cemetery in St. Louis where many other famous Missourians have been laid to rest.

Rush Limbaugh created modern national talk radio as we now know it. For over three decades he kept at rapt attention -- live from noon to 3 p.m. on weekdays -- the largest conservative audience in broadcast history. More than 15 million tuned in each week. Last week, 32 years and more than 23,000 hours of on-air commentary after he went national in August 1988, Limbaugh died of lung cancer at age 70. By the 1990s he had become the voice, literally and iconically, of the conservative movement and its hot/cold liaisons with the Republican Party. Limbaugh was hated by...

Longtime "The Rush Limbaugh Show" producer and call-screener James Golden -- better known to millions of listeners as "Bo Snerdley" or "Mr. Snerdley" -- honored the iconic broadcaster as a friend and colleague on "Hannity" Thursday. "Our beloved Rush has returned his talent to God," an emotional Snerdley told host Sean Hannity, riffing on Limbaugh's favorite self-description as having "talent on loan from God." "We can't wrap our arms around this," Snerdley added. "We can't wrap our brains and our hearts around this ... we are so thankful to him. Limbaugh died Wednesday at age 70 from lung cancer complications.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) is calling on Florida mayors not to lower their flags in honor of the late talk radio pioneer Rush Limbaugh, a move which would be in defiance of an order by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). “Rush Limbaugh spent his career normalizing and popularizing hatred and bigotry against people of color, immigrants, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. He built a brand around disgusting insults, bolstering rape culture, spewing lies about the AIDS crisis, and nonstop bullying,” Wasserman Schultz wrote in a letter to local mayors.

A decade ago, the late Rush Limbaugh scoffed at the notion of leaving any of his money behind. We know this because he was reacting to us. Our coverage of Steve Jobs' no-tax estate plan made a lot of waves. Rush felt the need to insert himself into the narrative by sharing his thoughts about legacy. They were terse and tough. He didn't want to leave anything behind. If he spent everything and died broke, he'd be happy, he said. Now, a year after announcing he had terminal cancer, he's gone. And as far as anyone can tell, he left...

There was, in the hours following Rush Limbaugh’s death Wednesday at the age of 70, a rush of praise and of judgment-passing about his career and what it meant in the world of politics. The human stories about Limbaugh tended to get lost if you didn’t look hard enough. Thankfully, country music superstar John Rich was there to remind us. In 2011, Rich was one of the final two contestants on “Celebrity Apprentice,” hosted by our future former president, Donald Trump. (In a contemporary piece that has aged like a chef’s kiss, Billboard noted that “Trump was presiding over ‘The...

For more than 30 years, Rush Limbaugh sat down and talked to Americans about America. Across the country, in pickup trucks, roadside diners and quiet cubicles where his listeners were obliged to wear headphones lest they offend, his rich baritone rolled out of the air, and it spoke the truth.

Long before Limbaugh built an unprecedented national media platform, before he was deemed an honorary member of the Republican congressional delegation, before he helped bring conspiracy theories and racist, misogynistic vitriol into mainstream political discourse, he was a desperate 33-year-old guy who had all but given up on his broadcast dreams. It was 1984, and young Limbaugh had been fired from at least five stations in three cities

Usually, in this line of work, if you're lucky, you get a moment - a year or two when you're the in-thing - and you hope to hold enough of that moment as it slowly fades away to keep you going till retirement. Rush did something unprecedented in the history of TV and radio. Commercial broadcasting began in the United States in 1920: The Rush Limbaugh Show came along two-thirds of a century later, became the Number One program very quickly, and has stayed at the top all the way to today - for a third of the entire history...

It is hard to say something about Rush Limbaugh that hasn’t already been said, but I’ll try. I was there on the day of his debut. I was working at WPBR, an ocean-front radio station in Palm Beach, Florida. It was August of 1988 and I was doing one of a number of commercial radio gigs while in college. At WPBR, I did news on the hour but also ran the board. This particular day, a new and different show was debuting at noon – a talk show with a point of view. he news of this new show was...

During their brief coverage of Rush’s passing, NBC news just committed journalistic malpractice. Of course, they do this in some fashion almost daily. They claimed that Rush was well known for making “racist and sexist comments”. Then, as an example, they played a tape (while printing the words on screen) of Rush saying: “We need segregated buses.... this is Obama’s America!” Racist ? Really ? Rush was talking about Obama’s statement that “Republicans need to get to the back of the bus.” Rush’s statement had NOTHING to do with race. Obama wanted to segregate us based on our political beliefs....
