Pro-life leaders are expressing their fury toward Rep. Renée Ellmers (R-NC) for seeking to delay what has been expected to be a relatively easy passage next week of a House bill that would restrict abortions to 20 weeks of pregnancy based on scientific evidence that unborn babies experience pain at 20 weeks of gestation. According to the National Journal, Ellmers is leading a group of moderate Republican congresswomen who appear to have concerns about the political ramifications of the bill – which is to be voted on next week on the 42nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision – because it...

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's pro-amnesty organization FWD.us bought deceptive advertisements to help Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) defeat underfunded primary challenger Frank Roche in Tuesday's North Carolina primary. The group promptly celebrated Ellmers' win. FWD.us's Joe Green said that Ellmers' victory "makes clear" that "the time is now for House Republicans to bring" amnesty legislation to the floor. Lobbying groups like FWD.us want high-tech visas that will lower the wages of American workers, even though no evidence suggests there is a shortage of American high-tech workers.

The GOP primary challenger to incumbent Renee Ellmers picked up a big in-district endorsement today. Former Moore County GOP chairman Bob Levy — the immediate predecessor to current chairman John Rowderdink — has publicly endorsed the candidacy of Republican Frank Roche for North Carolina’s Second congressional district seat: “Based upon the position of Congress Member Ellmers endorsing amnesty for illegal immigrants, I am proud to endorse the candidacy of Frank Roche for Congress.

Last Saturday, Renee Ellmers (R-NC02) — a 2010 Tea Party favorite who has since lost the support of conservatives — gave a brief speech to the Moore County, North Carolina GOP Convention. During the speech, she claimed to hold the same views on immigration as Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and even Dr. Ben Carson. This statement came a few days after Ellmers’ tendentious appearance with Laura Ingraham last week — an interview that might have progressed smoothly had Ellmers actually expressed the same views on immigration as those four. Ellmers’ brief speech in Moore County offered no specification backing her...

Yesterday, Ron Woodward of NC Listen reported on a meeting he had with Renee Ellmers on the topic of immigration and amnesty. He claimed he had exited the meeting appalled both by her positions and by her behavior. One of the constituents attending the meeting recorded the conversation. The Randolph Tea Party posted the clips online, and exclusively forwarded the links to PJ Media. Four clips of the meeting are embedded below. At one point, Ellmers says of Woodard: “You don’t have any damn facts.â€Ellmers claims he is stereotyping, and constantly interrupts him. This conduct occurred after she had inconvenienced the group by...

Rep. Renee Ellmers had been on Laura Ingraham’s nationally-syndicated radio program to talk about Obamacare and North Carolina politics Thursday, but when the conversation turned to immigration about five minutes into the interview, things got ugly. Ellmers, under fire on amnesty from calm but insistent questioning from Ingraham, called her host “small minded,” “ignorant,” and claimed to be the author of a ubiquitious immigration talking point, adopting the third person to say “Renee Ellmers thinks for herself.” The epic bout began when Ingraham brought up Ellmers’ primary challenger Frank Roche and asked why she supports a pathway to citizenship for...

Openly gay “American Idol” runner-up could run in North Carolina Clay Aiken may dedicate his knack for winning voters’ hearts to something besides “American Idol”: The runner-up on the show’s second-season is reportedly mulling a run for Congress in North Carolina. The Washington Blade says Aiken, 35, has consulted with political operatives including Betsy Conti, a political strategist who worked for Al Gore and former North Carolina Gov. Bev Purdue. Conti is based in Aiken’s hometown of Raleigh. He would potentially seek the seat now held by second term Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers, the Blade reported. Aiken, who came...

A North Carolina congresswoman who said she needed her paycheck during the government shutdown now says she won’t cash the check until the shutdown ends. Rep. Renee Ellmers said Friday she’s asked the Office of Chief Administrative Officer to have her paycheck withheld as long as the government is shut down. … In a statement on Friday, Ellmers said, “I will stand with all federal workers and have my paycheck withheld.” …

Lillington, N.C. — In the wake of a mass shooting that critically injured one of her fellow lawmakers, Republican 2nd District Congresswoman Renee Ellmers said Thursday that she plans to carry a gun when making public appearances. "We have to protect ourselves. We know that. That is something we have always been cognizant of,” Ellmers said. "There have been times in the past I have carried my weapon, and I will probably continue to do so. Some days I might have it. Some days I might not." The longtime nurse and Dunn resident obtained a concealed-carry permit in February after...

Muslims accuse GOP congresswoman of equating Muslims with terrorists and disregarding them. In North Carolina’s 2nd congressional district, many Muslims are, apparently, downright angry with newly elected GOP congresswoman Renee Ellmers for what they allege is her disrespect towards them. The anger that the Muslim community in the state apparently has for the congresswoman is based on an election ad she used that involved the planned Ground Zero mosque. Even though she only used the term "victory mosque" in said ad, she was slandered by the Muslims for equating them with terrorists. The ad didn’t hurt Ellmers at all since...

Here is video of North Carolina Democrat Rep. Bob Etheridge finally conceding defeat to Republican Renee Ellmers in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. The race had been called for Ellmers long ago, and we had already put it in the GOP column. But Etheridge had refused to concede until today. Etheridge became vulnerable to defeat earlier this year when he approached two young men on a street in Washington who were trying to ask him questions. Etheridge kept asking the men, “Who are you,” and eventually even grabbed one of the guys and pulled him toward him, holding him by...

Dear Supporter, Friday the Board of Elections ‘certified’ I lead Congressman Etheridge by 1489 votes – 93,893 to 92,404. Then Congressman Etheridge ‘officially’ called for a recount – which began this morning. We have lawyers and observers and volunteers on hand in each County Board of Elections as they begin the next step of the recount in eight (of ten) counties and, hopefully, we’ll have a much clearer picture tonight. I’ll post updates on the campaign website. I am confident that as long as there is a fair and accurate recount I will hold my lead over Congressman Etheridge and...

Recounts in the tight race for the 2nd District seat in Congress will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Republican challenger Renee Ellmers led seven-term incumbent Democrat Bob Etheridge by 1,489 votes, slightly less than 1 percent of all ballots cast, when vote totals were certified Friday. Etheridge immediately requested a recount. The district comprises 10 counties, including all or parts of Harnett, Sampson, Cumberland and Lee counties. Each county will recount the ballots cast in its precincts. The counts will be conducted at various times on Wednesday and Thursday. The latest will take place in Lee and Wake counties, where...

Dear Supporter, The counties have ‘certified’ I lead Congressman Etheridge by 1489 votes. And Congressman Etheridge has ‘officially’ called for a recount. The current vote is: Renee Ellmers: 93,893 Bob Etheridge: 92,404 Congressman Etheridge gained 150 votes when the ‘provisional ballots’ were counted and now because I lead by less than 1% -- every ballot will be recounted. This means we need volunteers, observers and lawyers in each County Board of Elections during each recount. This puts a terrific financial strain on my campaign. In Congress, Bob Etheridge won’t vote to repeal Obama-care. I will. Bob Etheridge won’t vote for...

Recount Update by RENEE on NOVEMBER 10, 2010 in CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENTS Dear Supporter, The Boards of Election in three counties have met and counted their ‘provisional’ ballots. Congressman Etheridge has gained 33 votes. Overall, I lead by 1,600 votes. What is a ‘provisional’ ballot? When a voter shows up at a precinct, but is not on the list of registered voters, then he or she is given a ‘provisional’ ballot. Then, later, the local Elections Board determines if he or she is entitled to vote. What happened Monday night in Franklin County – one of the ten counties in my...

I just received this e-mail: Dear Supporter, Election night, after the ten counties in my district had reported their votes, I led Bob Etheridge by 2,100 votes. (That number is crucial because under North Carolina law Congressman Etheridge is not entitled to an ‘automatic recount’ if he trails by more than 1% – or 1,888 votes.) Then, yesterday afternoon – unexpectedly – the vote totals changed. The State Board of Elections reported my lead had dropped to 1,600 votes. Two hours later Bob Etheridge announced he intended to call for a recount. As a result, last night my campaign began...

Raleigh, N.C. — Seven-term Democratic Congressman Bob Etheridge appeared late Tuesday to lose his re-election bid, becoming the lone casualty among North Carolina's congressional delegation in a pivotal election nationwide. The Associated Press declared Republican challenger Renee Ellmers the victor in the Second District race shortly before midnight. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Ellmers had about a 2,100-vote lead over Etheridge. Etheridge, however, wasn't ready to concede defeat. "I’ve been in close elections before, and we will follow the established process to ensure the integrity of the outcome. We will make sure every vote is counted and every voice...
