Electric vehicles are significantly less reliable than conventional cars powered by gas or hybrid vehicles, according to a new survey from Consumer Reports. The annual car reliability survey by Consumer Reports found that EVs are 79 percent more likely to have problems than conventional cars. Consumers reported that electric drive motors, charging and EV batteries had the most common issues associated with EVs, according to the survey. Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports, noted that there may be “growing pains” among EVs because they are based on new technology or are being manufactured by new upstart...

Outgoing CNN anchor Brian Stelter started the final episode of “Reliable Sources” on Sunday by saying that the show was a small but mighty “one-of-a-kind.” Stelter said, “One of the biggest media stories of the week is right here. It’s the end of this show. CNN has canceled ‘Reliable Sources.’ Yes, the longest-running program on the network. I have a lot of thoughts about it but am going to save those for later this hour. As most of you know, CNN has a new owner. Warner Brothers Discovery is making big changes across the company. And there’s going to be...

Europe has an energy crisis. Factories are halting operations in the face of soaring energy prices; families are paying 50% more for heating (or opting to freeze in their homes), and Europe as a whole continues to destabilize its political position by making itself dependent on Russia for natural gas. Europe shows what happens when you adopt policies based on false ideas—myths about energy that all but guarantee high prices, power blackouts, and a crashing economy. Here are 6 of them: Myth 1. The world is transitioning to solar, wind and batteries Myth 2. Solar and wind are the best...

Consumer-members of Ohio electric cooperatives understand the benefits of renewable energy sources like wind and solar — endless supplies that can’t be used up, with little to no carbon footprint. Why, then, can’t Buckeye Power, the generation cooperative that provides electricity to the 25 member cooperatives in the state, switch to all renewable resources? This month, we attempt to answer why coal must remain an important part of our energy generation resources. Why do we STILL need coal? An important thing to know about electricity is that it's produced as you're using it. Why can't we switch to all renewables?...

A top veteran CNN exec says the network’s liberal weekly news show “Reliable Sources’’ needs to be more balanced by adding conservative guests. When looking for recommendations for a good mechanic, first ask your immediate local network. Ask your Facebook friends, ask the guy next door, heck, even ask your mailman if you want. Reviews from real people who you trust will always be more useful and beneficial.. Another route is the Napa estimator. This tool uses make, model, year, and zip code to account for geographic and regional differences.

Hello all, I need some advice on purchasing a handgun. I live in the People’s Republic of MD and the new gun control laws are about to take effect (Oct 1st). I am in the market for a .45. I was looking at cheaper than dirt at several models and would appreciate any hints you can give regarding a purchase. Have you dealt with buying guns from cheaper than dirt? Do you have a better source/way to do this? What is the proper procedure for completing this purchase from an on-line retailer? I would also like recommendations for handguns in...

Sorry to post a vanity. I have been shopping for washers and possibly a dryer. The utility room is only 52" wide. The prior owner had found a 25" Whirlpool washer and 26" GE dryer. The dryer still works. I would like to get feedback from others.

After getting frustrated out of the lemons his problems gave him, David Miller made his own corporate lemonade. Due to the frustration of always having to call technical support to solve his own frequent hardware problems, he started taking the initiative to educate himself.

WASHINGTON, May 13, 2009 – The Army’s Advanced Automotive Battery Initiative is searching for the “holy grail” of power technology: an inexpensive, lightweight and reliable battery. “Collaboration is very important, in my opinion,” Sonja Gargies, energy storage team leader for the Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, told listeners during an “Armed with Science: Research and Applications for the Modern Military” webcast May 6 on Pentagon Web Radio. “I don’t see how one agency alone can accomplish the goal of a more energy efficient world.” Academia and industry, along with the Defense and Energy departments, need to...

There have been huge disastrous floods in Guyana and the nation is openly appealing for help from the American military. This may seem like an old story, but it's not. I hope we help Guyana. There are good reasons, and it's in everyone's interest. The tsunami relief effort got word to the world that when you are in deep trouble, America is the one, the only one, you can reliably turn to. Swift efficient help to impossible areas, soldiers who are friendly and compassionate, soldiers who won't shake you down, soldiers who will treat you with dignity and help you...

London - Most Britons regard France as their least reliable ally and have warmed to the United States since the war in Iraq, a poll published on Monday showed. The MORI poll in the Financial Times newspaper showed that 55 percent of Britons regard France as their least reliable ally. No other country got into double figures. By contrast, 73 percent of those polled considered the United States to be their most reliable ally. The poll showed that, while Britons still regard Europe as more important to them than the United States, the balance has shifted over the past year....

Hi FR techie types; My domain name is coming up for renewal. It seems like there's a lot more registrar competition out there than two years ago, when I went with Network Solutions. VeriSign is now offering to renew the registration for the next five years, for a total of $100/$20 per year. Does anyone have experiences with registrants other than VeriSign that are better/cheaper?

Everyone seems to have their terrorism antenna up nowadays. Some of the results, like the "zero tolerance" at airports, has quite obviously crossed the stupid line. But, that's only because Congress interfered, passing inappropriate legislation. Where Congress has not (yet) interfered, things seem to be handled on a more adult level. The trucking industry is a case in point. Those of us who have had the unfortunate experience of witnessing a large gas truck burn understand what an eventful situation that can be. Other hazardous materials transported by trucks from coast to coast every day of the year could cause...
