The Council on State Taxation (COST) recently released its 11th annual report on business taxation, revealing that businesses paid a total of $649 billion in state and local taxes in fiscal year 2012—an increase of 3.9 percent from fiscal year 2011. Total state business taxes increased by 5.8 percent from fiscal year 2011, while local business taxes grew by 1.7 percent.
