On Monday, the network introduced an initiative that requires these shows to ensure that 50% of their casts are Black, Indigenous or People of Color, or BIPOC. Additionally, the network has committed to putting at least 25% of its development budget towards creators and producers who are BIPOC. These reality TV targets will kick off during the 2021-22 broadcast season. “The reality TV genre is an area that’s especially underrepresented, and needs to be more inclusive across development, casting, production and all phases of storytelling,” George Cheeks, president and CEO for the CBS Entertainment Group, said in a statement.

  • Reality Shows Uncomfortable With Reality

The basic problem with "Duck Dynasty" AND all other "Reality" Shows is that they are uncomfortable with Reality. With Duck Dynasty, A&E basically wanted something like the Beverly Hillbillies but it got away from them with talk about religion. However, Duck Dynasty is not the only "Reality" Show uncomfortable with reality. Here are some other shows that had to tangle with bits of uncomfortable reality that they tried to suppress: Storage Wars: The best REAL moment on that show was when Mark, who worked for Jarrod and Brandi angrily quit. Apparently he was getting tired of Jarrod and Brandi making...

TV Reality shows have become incredibly popular the past few years. However, some Reality Shows are more real than others. Therefore, rate the TV Reality Shows in terms of how REAL they are. At the bottom in terms of reality, I have to list "Amish Mafia." Even its name sounds unreal. And even more unreal than the sound of the show title is the show itself. Yeah, like Amish folks are going to pay protection money to Lebanon Levi. The show is soooo unreal as to make the viewer laugh which is why I watched it during the first season....
  • Chad Johnson’s Miami Dolphins career was short, eventful and properly terminated

Give Chad Johnson this much: The man might have had the most eventful Dolphins career of any player in club history among those who appeared in exactly one game — an exhibition at that — and dropped the only pass thrown his way. Quick chronology of Johnson’s two summer months with Miami: Gets married in wedding filmed for planned new reality show. Has surname legally changed from Ochocinco back to Johnson. Says hello to Dolphins with profanity filled introductory news conference. Is admonished by coach Joe Philbin to quit spewing F-bombs publicly in an intended private conversation aired nationally on...
  • What TV Reality Show is the Most STAGED?

All TV Reality shows are staged to one extent or another. However, what TV Reality show do you think is the most STAGED.My nominee would be "Barter Kings." To watch that show you have to put your brains in deep freeze to accept the premise that someone will trade something valuable for a near worthless piece of junk. Plus Steve was supposed to have been a car salesman so he can use his sales skills but his sales pitches sound really unconvincing. His voice doesn't really express much confidence when he asserts that his junky item will earn the other...

VH1 took one reality show off the air and will likely cancel another, this in the wake of a high profile murder-suicide case involving a cast member. VH1 is a unit of Viacom. Both reality shows are produced by 51 Minds Entertainment. Ryan Alexander Jenkins was charged with the murder of Jasmine Fiore, a swimsuit model and former Playboy employee. Fiore, Jenkins’ ex- wife, was found stuffed in a suitcase inside a trash bin in Orange County, Calif. Because her fingers and teeth had been removed, the authorities identified her from the serial number on her surgical breast implants. Jenkins...
  • Vieira To Blago: Why Lower Yourself To Appear On . . . NBC Show?

Apparently the irony was lost on Meredith . . . Interviewing Blago this morning, Meredith Vieira, co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, twice suggested to Rod Blagojevich that the former Illinois governor would have demeaned himself to appear on a reality show . . . on NBC. The two talked after a judge turned down the indicted Blago’s request to travel to Costa Rica to be a member of the cast of “I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here!” MEREDITH VIEIRA: A lot of people are wondering why a former governor would want to be on a show like this....
  • Show Seeks to love match migrants and U.S. citizens

PHOENIX (Reuters) - A Los Angeles company is touting a new reality game show called "Who Wants to Marry a U.S. Citizen" that aims to create televised matrimony between legal citizens and immigrants who have temporary visas. The show's backers at Morusa Media hope to make a sort of love match between reality TV and a national obsession with immigration. But the producers make no promise that a marriage will occur or lead to U.S. citizenship. Show creator Adrian Martinez said that Morusa Media has not yet found a network to produce or air the show, but he is currently...

Like most sane people with a life, I hate reality TV shows. Why should I care about wannabe loser nobody's and what eight of them do together in a house or on an island or in an Australian desert? But, based on my viewing of the first two episodes of "Anchorwoman" on FOX, last night, I think this show is an exception. Anchorwoman is Lauren Jones, a completely ditzy excessively-siliconed, peroxided former model and WWE wrestler who wants to become a local news anchor. They'd never hire this idiot, but since FOX owns the small-town Texas TV station and wanted...

The online social networking site MySpace and reality TV producer Mark Burnett are teaming to launch the search for an independent presidential candidate. The political reality show ''Independent'' comes with a $1 million cash prize and a catch: the winner can't keep the money. The prize can be used to finance a run for the White House or can be given to a political action committee or political cause. Contestants in the show, set to launch in early 2008, will meet the public and interact with supporters, protesters and others. An interactive ''town hall'' will give MySpace users and TV...

MUNCIE, Ind. - Producers of a reality television show are paying suspects arrested by gun-toting celebrity cops to persuade them to show their faces on the air. "Armed & Famous" is an upcoming CBS reality show in which former "CHiPs" star Erik Estrada, La Toya Jackson, Jack Osbourne and others become armed reserve officers on the Muncie police force. CBS publicist Kelli Raftery confirmed Monday that the show has offered some of those arrested T-shirts or cash to sign a waiver, officially known as a "likeness release." "This release form has no effect or impact on the arrest or the...

Just a hunch. Self-proclaimed flower child in MA, bossy, wants to be the center of attention, blames everybody else when she turns people off with her rudeness(love how she got drunk in front of the children at a dinner out with her 'new' family), lots of class-warfare references seeming to arise from insecurity and jealousy, 'knows better than everyone else' yet unrealistic. "I, I, I", "Poor, poor me", victim, victim, victim. Seems to think that someone good-looking and rich couldn't simply be nice, no, they must be fake, of ill-gotten wealth, etc. Or maybe editing does wonders. No doubt that...

I saw a commercial for next Friday's edition of 20/20 last night. The ad consisted of something that just left me stunned and unable to form any words, save one. The ad is plugging a story helmed by Barbara Walters. This is the gist of it: Five couples are vying to adopt a single baby. Of course, only one will be able to, and four others will be heartbroken. Who will the mother choose? This was followed by a shot of the four couples standing behind Walters and the mother, holding her baby, and Walters saying something along the lines...

American culture grows more crass by the day. One of the most successful American TV shows is The Apprentice starring Donald Trump, a man loaded with money but bankrupt of class. The highlight of the show is when Trump humiliates potential employees by barking at them, "You're fired!" One can only grieve over a culture that promotes a coarse womanizer who has dumped a wife or two in favor of young models as its symbol of professional success. Indeed, watching people be humiliated is big business on American TV. Shows such as American Idol feature judges like Simon Cowell –...

“Joe Millionaire” star Evan Marriott continues to talk trash about his TV-arranged romance. Marriott has been doing the talk-show circuit in Canada, where, according to one source, he suggested that the show’s producers urged him to pick “winner” Zora. “He said he wasn’t really attracted to any of the contestants,” according to the source. “He was hot for one of the production people. But the producers wanted Zora.” And in an interview, the former construction worker had some not entirely kind words for the woman he “chose.” “After the show, we spent two days together,” Marriott told Canada’s National Post....
