When my pager goes off at University Hospital in Newark, and I see a line that reads “Pediatric gunshot wound, 20 minutes out,” I immediately run down to the ER whether I’m on call or not, because I can’t help but wonder if it’s my kid. That’s the added twist of being a mother of three and a trauma surgeon in America. I worry, like other mothers, about my childrens’ safety, and it’s my job to expect patients rushed to our ER who may have minutes left to live.

The party constantly lecturing America on the importance of diversity is set to have an all-white debate stage in the upcoming Democratic presidential debate scheduled for Dec. 19th. A group of black state lawmakers are calling for New Jersey to examine its historic role in slavery and possibly pay reparations to its black residents. Leaders of the state’s Legislative Black Caucus on Thursday introduced a bill that would establish the New Jersey Reparations Task Force. If approved, the panel would research the history of slavery in the Garden State, any racial discrimination and disparity that stemmed from it, and how the state could help make up for it.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday said that violent, racially-motivated extremists in the U.S. are connecting with foreign extremists, with some traveling abroad to train. Appearing before the House Homeland Security Committee, Wray was pressed to discuss how the FBI handles domestic terrorism suspects and how it is different than foreign terrorism suspects. VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Valdosta State University seniors are taking their last steps across campus, but some students are having second thoughts about walking across the stage at graduation.
