Full headline: Elizabeth ‘Fauxcohontas’ Warren called out by young black man for claiming justice system is ‘racist’ Identity Politics: For a fake Indian, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., makes a pretty good race-baiter. She did so again in recent days when she took her and her party’s “identity politics” on the road to New Orleans, where she blanketly claimed that our justice system was just plain “racist.” And then she was called out for it by a “young man of color” at a subsequent political event. ... “Our prison system is something that America should be ashamed of. What we do...

US Senator Elizabeth Warren is facing tough criticism from local police chiefs over her recent remarks about racism and the criminal justice system, exposing her to new attacks from rivals as she runs for re-election amid buzz that she could be a Democratic presidential contender in 2020. While speaking Aug. 3 at Dillard University, a historically black college in New Orleans, Warren said the criminal justice system is “racist. . . front to back.” The remarks drew a rebuke from Yarmouth Police Chief Frank G. Frederickson, who wrote Friday on the department’s Facebook page that her comments were an “insult.”...

OUMOU KANOUTE is a black student at Smith College with a summer job on campus. This is what happened as she ate lunch in a mostly empty dining hall one day last week: A college employee saw her “laying on the couch” alone, mistook her for an unfamiliar male who “seem[ed] to be out of place,” and phoned the campus police. An unarmed officer was sent to check things out. He spoke politely to Kanoute, saw nothing was amiss, and left her in peace. Here’s what didn’t happen:

Obama in a dress is really off to a great start, spending a lot of money on planning her presidential campaign, while strongly hinting that anyone who isn't on board is a racist. Sen. Kamala Harris accused critics of “identity politics” of weaponizing the term to diminish issues of race, gender and sexual orientation, pressing Democrats on Friday to address those issues head on. “I have a problem, guys, with that phrase, ‘identity politics,’” Harris told the progressive gathering Netroots Nation, wading into a messaging debate roiling Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. “Because let’s be clear, when people say...

Former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul tweeted out a racist and anti-Semitic cartoon Monday before swiftly deleting it amid a backlash on social media. The cartoon featured a range of minorities depicted in stereotypical terms—including a Jewish man with a hooked nose, a black man with large lips as well as portrayals of Asians and Latinos. The four men are shown punching up at an Uncle Sam figure together with a speech bubble that reads, “Cultural Marxism!” Together, with the cartoon, Paul wrote: “Are you stunned by what has become of American culture? Well, it’s not an accident. You’ve probably...

The US Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has removed Laura Ingalls Wilder's name from one of its awards over racist views and language. The association had received complaints for years over the Little House on the Prairie author's "anti-Native and anti-Black sentiments in her work". The ALSC board voted unanimously on Saturday to remove Wilder's name from the children's literature award. The medal will be renamed as the Children's Literature Legacy award. The ALSC, a division of the American Library Association, said Wilder's novels and "expressions of stereotypical attitudes" were "inconsistent with ALSC's core values". Wilder's children's novels...

The far right in the UK is mobilising itself around protests over the imprisonment of the former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson, a group of MPs, union leaders and political activists have said. In a letter to the Guardian, they say a violent 15,000-strong far-right protest in support of Robinson in central London on 9 June raised concerns for those who value diversity. “The racist right are using Robinson to reorganise,” the letter says. It says Nazi salutes and Islamophobia were central features of the protest. At one point demonstrators chased police through the streets of Whitehall. “This is...

Who Are the Racist? I noodled this question based on a belief that racism not acted upon is relatively benign. With that notion in mind which political party appears to be more racist than another? A belief that races and cultures are not equal need not assign inferiority. However, when that belief does assign and act upon inferiority that belief it is no longer benign. Political positions appear to divide into two points of view. The Conservative view is that representation and consideration must include all people. Their reason is that the Constitution does not empower legislation that does not...
