Despite the left’s attempt to deny it, some anti-Trump protesters are indeed paid to show up — including those from a growing number of tech companies who are paying their employees to participate in anti-Trump rallies. The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Saturday, in an article titled “Bay Area demonstrators may be paid to protest, by employers,” that the “common accusation lobbed at liberal protesters” that “they’re being paid to protest” is at least partially based in fact. According to the Chronicle, “an increasing number of companies have unveiled policies that allow employees to take paid time off work for...

There’s a social-justice movement taking hold across the nation. Michael Brown’s death, which turned Ferguson, Mo., into a battleground this past summer, has helped catalyze a larger struggle for racial and economic justice in America. And St. Louis, where 18-year-old Vonderrit Myers Jr. was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer, has witnessed roiling street demonstrations that recall the heyday of the civil rights and black power eras. Taking a page straight from the civil rights era, activists launched a “weekend of resistance” that featured civil disobedience, direct action protests, tense standoffs with police and arrests. The issues raised—ending...

The National Lawyers Guild had legal observers on the ground in Ferguson to monitor protests against the killing of unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, by a Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. They were also present to help with jail support for community residents. But, while working, four of the NLG’s observers fell victim to the police occupation they were trying to help Ferguson fight and were arrested. As Dennis Black, one of the legal observers arrested, commented, “Ferguson is a pilot program of what’s to come when communities respond to police brutality.” He and others had traveled from Detroit to...

The Justice Department’s chief peacekeeper is on his way to embattled Ferguson, Mo. Usually, Grande H. Lum flies under the radar. As head of the department’s Community Relations Service, the Harvard Law School graduate is an experienced mediator, more diplomat than prosecutor. The agency he heads was established under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, with the stated mission to aid communities “in resolving disputes, disagreements, or difficulties relating to discriminatory practices based on race, color, or national origin which impair the rights of persons in such communities.” “These officials will continue to convene stakeholders whose cooperation is critical to keeping...

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/gov/2618821815.html The Working Families Party (WFP) (www.workingfamiliesparty.org) is New York's most energetic, independent and progressive political party. Formed in 1998 by a grassroots coalition of community organizations, neighborhood activists, and labor unions, we came together to build a society that works for all of us, not just Wall Street CEOs and the well-connected. WFP is independent from corporate and government funding and in-addition we are community based; community funded and equally uninfluenced by both major parties. Our agenda focuses on economic and social justice, corporate accountability, job creation, environmental protection, and investment in education and healthcare. For the past twelve...

Just received the following email alert regarding the Tax Day Tea Party for Sacramento, CA.: Many of us have been getting disturbing emails and phone calls regarding the counter protests or "crashers" we are expecting on the day of our event. This did happen last year as well so plan for it. It's much better to be prepared than surprised. Here are some suggestions for our event and "crashers": 1. We will introduce ourselves to the local police on that day as the permit holder. We have already spoken with Officer Troy on many occasions and he knows us and...

LA COURNEUEVE, France, May 6, 2007 (AFP) - As news of rightwinger Nocolas Sarkozy's presidential victory flashed up on the television in the cafe, Gnyma Cisse buried her head in her hands in a mixture of frustration and fury. "I'm disgusted," said Cisse, 23, who had gathered to watch the election coverage in Le Metro cafe which caters to a largely immigrant and first generation French-born clientelle in the La Courneuve suburb of Paris. Cisse, of Sengalese origin, called her sister-in-law who lives here without French nationality. "Pack your bags. The planes are already on standby," she said, alluding to...

GOT SCREWED, USA -- Complaining about officiating is a time-honored sports tradition. It's much easier to believe your team got screwed than it got whupped because anger is more manageable than sadness. It's sour grapes, plain and simple. But, America, please forgive Seahawks fans if they sound a little bitter and paranoid after the rest of the country got its sweet, little fairy tale with Jerome Bettis winning Super Bowl XL in his hometown of Detroit. It just seems a bit too tidy, considering how things went down. Here's the rub: No intelligent person, and that includes Pittsburgh fans, watched...

MUCH ADO ABOUT BELLING by Timothy Rollins, Editor and Publisher November 19, 2004 EDITOR'S NOTE: Now that the dust has settled and WISN talk show host Mark Belling (right) is back at work - pulling no punches and doing what he does best - calling it as it is, I thought now would be a good time to run this piece. I waited because I wanted to see if Clear Channel was going to have the backbone to back their prize property or the stupidity to gut their cash cow and hang him out to dry. It seems they did...

...Now the CNN of the Arab world has fired its general manager, Mohammed Jassem Ali-Ali. Ali-Ali had set up and run the network since its inception in 1996. He had previously worked for Qatar television; Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar, but repeatedly aired exclusive footage provided by Iraqi officials during the war.
