Doing Business Jim Quinn“Quinn & Rose” will ride again in Pittsburgh, this time on iHeart’s sports “ESPN Pittsburgh” WBGG/970, its translator at 106.3 and the HD2 signal of sister country “Big 104.7” WPGB. No announcement yet from the station, but Jim Quinn said yesterday on his own syndicated show that he and former Pittsburgh radio partner Rose Somma-Tennant will be heard on WBGG from 8am to 10am weekdays, starting September 24. Sounds like “ESPN Pittsburgh” is picking up part of Quinn’s existing show, now with the addition of “Rose.” Jim Quinn’s worked in Pittsburgh at top 40 KQV (including when...

Conservative radio hosts Jim Quinn and Rose Tennent, formerly of WPGB 104.7 FM, have said they turned down an offer to be hosts on the newly reconfigured WJAS-AM (1320), but the station’s ownership would not confirm their statement. “Note: we have declined the offer from WJAS. Terms offered precluded our ability to live stream to our audience which was essential,” the duo posted Thursday on their Twitter account (@warroom). On Friday, they wrote and then deleted a similar tweet. Frank Iorio, owner of Radio Partners LLC, which purchased the station earlier this month, said Friday that the company had been...

Two widely expected format flips occurred Aug. 7 on Pittsburgh radio. WJAS (1320 AM) began picking up the former news-talk format of WPGB (104.7 FM) at noon, while at 3 p.m., WPGB flipped from news-talk to “Big 104.7” airing “Pittsburgh's New Hit Country.” The new “Big 104.7” opened with Florida Georgia Line's “This Is How We Roll” and pledged 10,000 songs in a row without commercials to start its competition with CBS Radio's WDSY “Y-108” (107.9 FM) and Keymarket's three Froggy FM stations, WOGG (94.9 FM), WOGH (103.5 FM) and WOGF (104.3 FM). WPGB alerted listeners to the format change...

8:20 pm Update 8/4: Frank Iorio Jr. has closed on his purchase of 1320 WJAS from Renda. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the station will flip to Talk at some point in the future, but it is “a little bit yet” before doing so. Is the flip perhaps related to the possible move of Clear Channel’s 104.7 WPGB from Talk to Country? Original Report 5/29: Renda Broadcasting has announced the sale of Adult Standards 1320 WJAS Pittsburgh to Frank Iorio Jr.’s Pittsburgh Radio Partners for $1 million.

Attached is a link to a PPG article about Jim Quinn's and Rose Tennant's first public appearance since their removal from Quinn & Rose, "America's Morning Show". Apparently, the turnout was quite large. I listened to Quinn & Rose for over 18 years until they were abruptly removed from the air a couple weeks ago. Clear Channel originally stated that "contract negotiations had broken down" and that they "were unable to come to financial terms". What I have learned from well-placed "A1" sources with access is that Quinn & Rose were summarily fired; they were NOT in contract negotiations. Unfortunately,...

Gone (temporarily, I hope!) but DEFINITELY not forgotten! Quinn and Rose are off the air, but they WILL be back! Meanwhile, our friendly group of dedicated FReeper Q&R fans will meet in our usual spot - same time, same station - as we always have! So grab your coffee - or whatever you choose to start your day - and drop in for some political chit-chat, or just to shoot the breeze!

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is fighting mad, over rumors about a purported phone call between Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and DNC Chair Howard Dean. According to the rumors--first broadcast last Thursday by Pittsburgh (and XM) radio talk show hosts Quinn and Rose, Mr. Dean reportedly urged Governor Sebelius to emphasize National Guard equipment shortages in the wake of the killer tornado that struck Greensburg, Kansas on May 4th. In other words, Dean was encouraging Ms. Sebelius to politicize the disaster, by linking claims of a "slow" response in Greensburg to equipment shortfalls resulting from guard deployments to Iraq. The...

A Free Republic poster writes that he's a regular reader who enjoys our views on a variety of issues. He writes that he's enjoyed our posts in which we use our skills as lawyers to weigh in on legal issues. He draws our attention to the cease-and-desist letter from an attorney representing the DNC to Free Republic. He asks whether the letter's threat of of a defamation claim is bona bide or not. In my view, the letter is sheer thuggery that recalls the same maneuever made on behalf of John Kerry in the 2004 campaign. He writes that the...

It gives me hope. I watched as thousands and thousands of people ran towards St. Peters Basilica, filling first the square and then every inch of every road leading to the square. Perhaps over 150,000 said one newsman. They were running. Not just the tourists that happen to be visiting that great city Rome, but the citizens of Rome as well. The shopkeepers closed up and took for the streets, joining the women pushing their children in strollers and the business men in suits. The bells rang and they ran. They were rushing and cheering and waiting to hear who...
