Chief strategist to the John McCain 2008 presidential campaign and current MSNBC contributor Steve Schmidt advised the Trump campaign to focus on writing a "dignified" concession speech for "Madam President-Elect Hillary Clinton."
-
A wave of apprehension and anguish swept the Republican Party on Thursday, with many GOP leaders alarmed by Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the outcome of the election and concluding that it is probably too late to salvage his flailing presidential campaign. As the Republican nominee reeled from a turbulent performance in the final debate here in Las Vegas, his party’s embattled senators and House members scrambled to protect their seats and preserve the GOP’s congressional majorities against what Republicans privately acknowledge could be a landslide victory for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. With 19 days until the election, the Republican...

On today’s Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski teased an upcoming segment with James Carville and Steve Schmidt by saying it would be a “debate.” But the only contest between the two was to see who could be more critical of Donald Trump. And Schmidt, senior adviser to John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, won that contest hands down. Schmidt actually said that the “peaceful transition of power” would be “in doubt” if Donald Trump loses, suggesting he might refuse to concede and rouse his supporters by claiming the election was rigged. The Israeli government is considering a proposal to build an artificial island off the Gaza Strip that a top official says would give Palestinians living in the besieged enclave their one and only seaport — and maybe a hotel and an international airport, too. The Israeli minister of intelligence who is promoting the plan, Israel Katz, said the Jewish state is actively seeking financial partners for the $5 billion project. Katz mentioned the Saudis and Chinese as possible builders of the port — or maybe a mysterious Israeli entrepreneur. He declined to name names. ... He said the plan is...

"It feels like a bazooka - and sounds like a cannon." How do we know AR-15s are the single most lethal weapon on the planet? Because they're SO LOUD. LOUD, YOU HEAR ME?! LOUD!!!! This is one of those things that must be read to be believed, and no, this was not found in The Onion, amazingly. New York Daily News reporter Gersh Kuntzman set out to test shoot an AR-15. “It feels like a bazooka — and sounds like a cannon,” he writes. A cannon. And Bazooka? The same bazooka also known as a "recoilless rifle"? I would like...

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has denied that the social media giant censors news from conservative outlets — and says he wants to meet with “leading conservatives” to discuss the issue. A report earlier this month by Gizmodo alleged that Facebook “routinely” suppressed conservative news in its “trending news” feature, even when stories from conservative sites were being circulated widely by Facebook users. The report also alleged that Facebook “injected” more acceptable stories, such as coverage of the left-wing Black Lives Matter movement. Facebook denied the allegations. In a Facebook post Thursday evening, Zuckerberg reiterated that denial, and said he plans...

Seasoned Republican operative Ed Rollins is making his debut in Donald Trump's presidential bid. Rollins, who was Ronald Reagan's 1984 campaign manager, spoke on a conference call Wednesday with supporters of Great America, a super PAC that backs Trump. Rollins has signed on as a strategist for the group. Rollins says the super PAC aims to help offset what he sees as a huge financial advantage for likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. "They're licking their chops," Rollins says of Clinton's team. "They think they're going to win this thing." Great America will likely conduct polls, collect opposition research and run...

I remember grassroots conservatives celebrating when he was elected two years ago because it meant adding another Republican to the Senate who takes his principles seriously. Now here’s Sasse last night reiterating that he takes his principles seriously enough not to vote for a big-government liberal just because he’s the party’s nominee and he’ll be excoriated for it. Oh well. The principled choice is rarely the popular one.

One can only picture the results of this cringe-worthy moment with President Kasich and a group of Muslims instead        John Kasich Tries to Teach the Bible to Talmudic Scholars So did you hear the one about Republican presidential candidate John Kasich and the students of the Talmud? Sadly, it’s not a joke. It does have a punchline – of sorts. Whether it’s funny or not depends on your point of view. While campaigning in New York Tuesday, in what Jewish Insider‘s Jacob Kornblush calls “a pre-Passover learning tour in the Borough Park neighborhood...

John Kasich bantered with Haredi Orthodox Jews about which biblical figure was most significant and other lessons from the Jewish Bible. […] “The story of the people are Abraham and God made a covenant with Abraham — not Moses!” Kasich told Ezra Friedlander, a Haredi lobbyist who was escorting Kasich through the heavily Haredi neighborhood. Friedlander had tried to explain that for Jews, Moses is considered the most important biblical figure, and more important than the patriarchs, because he brought the law to the Jews. “Moses is up there,” Friedlander said, as Kasich, an Anglican who was born Roman Catholic,...

[1]Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said she is worried too many Americans want to “insulate” themselves from the Syrian refugee crisis and other conflicts around the world.“I have long said that Americans are the most generous people in the world. But we do have the shortest attention spans and, when it comes to global crisis today, I fear that too many people in the United States believe we can insulate ourselves from the world’s problems and leave it to the countries of the region and Europe to sort out,” Albright said at the U.S. Institute of Peace’s “Beyond...

Donald Trump is "emasculating" former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with his attacks and his performance in state and national polling, prominent Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said Monday. "Look, Jeb Bush was a very successful governor, he's a thoughtful man, he was a good, conservative governor. But every day, Donald Trump is emasculating Jeb Bush, and Republican primary voters are not going to default to the establishment candidate who is being weakened by these attacks that go unresponded to." -snip- Breaking down the results of the latest Iowa polling on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Schmidt remarked upon the strong performance of candidates...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)Republican strategist and MSNBC political analyst Steve Schmidt gave Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul’s presidential run announcement speech a rave review, calling it “nearly flawless” and “incredibly sophisticated.” SCHMIDT: Look, I think this speech was very nearly flawless. It was a superb announcement speech for a president. You saw somebody who attached optimism to conservatism and saw someone articulate a big tent Republican message. When you look at these fiscal issues, including symbolically the foreign aid issues to countries like Pakistan… I think all of the issues he talked about have tremendous resonance in these early states. And let’s not...
