    Belfast Telegraph ^ | 03 July 2014
Fraud prevention officers have sent a new guide to universities warning students they could face jail for telling “white lies” on their CVs to make them more impressive. Entitled Don’t Finish Your Career Before It Starts, the guide warns that embellishments like inflating grades and inventing extra-curricular activities can be classed as “fraud by false representation” and carry a maximum 10-year jail sentence. It says that cases referred to the fraud prevention service CIFAS stay on file for six years, so applicants might also be flagged up if they attempt to apply for other jobs. …

The judge noted that Adler may not have been involved in Rothstein’s Ponzi scheme, but he helped illegally boost their law firm’s image with fraudulent campaign contributions to high-profile politicians, including former Gov. Charlie Crist and GOP presidential nominee John McCain.

"Three out of four people in prison are black or brown for nonviolent drug use. However, when you do surveys, white kids are doing drugs at an equal rate, and they are a much bigger part of the population. So, why are the prisons full of black and brown kids? It is easier to arrest them. It is easier to convict them. They don't get as good of attorneys. And, frankly, they live in the city in a much more collected fashion than in the suburbs, and so the police are patrolling the city more. But it is unfair. The...

When it comes to food, convicts are ingenious. Dried pasta and canned goods are prepared with nothing more than a pair of nail clippers. In prison, food takes on a significance that’s nearly unimaginable in the outside world. Sometimes it’s a scarce resource that confers power; everywhere it’s a status symbol and a form of currency. Cooking behind bars, was one of the few kinds of freedom us convicts could enjoy. On the flip side, food symbolizes a rigid social order. It doesn’t matter what kinds of friends you had on the outside, in lockup you don’t eat with other races....

  • Attorney General Holder Hopes to Cut Sentences of up to 20,000 Prisoners Under New Rules

    The Atlanta Black Star ^ | June 10, 2014 | Nick Chiles
In a proposal that could have a far-reaching impact on the Black community, Attorney General Eric Holder is urging the U.S. Sentencing Commission to cut the sentences of as many as 20,000 federal prisoners serving time for nonviolent drug offenses. It is Holder’s latest move to reform the sentencing guidelines that he has said disproportionately affect African-American males. The Justice Department appealed Tuesday to the U.S. Sentencing Commission to make some prisoners retroactively eligible for reduced sentences. The commission has already approved a measure to reduce drug sentences for future nonviolent offenders. This would apply to offenders already in federal...

President Barack Obama is moving ahead with his push to close the Guantanamo Bay prison despite the uproar over the exchange of five Taliban prisoners for a captured American soldier, an administration official said Thursday. The Periodic Review Board has determined that more former 'forever prisoners,' including one who says he has been reformed by practicing yoga and another who was a bodyguard for Bin Laden but now wants to start a 'milk and honey farm' are fit for release to their homelands or repatriation. Ghaleb Nasser al Bihani, 35, told a parole board in April that he had read...

WASHINGTON -- Imprisoned former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s projected release date is now Sept. 20, 2015, more than three months earlier than listed previously, federal officials confirmed Monday. In another development, Jackson has paid the $550,000 he owed the U.S. government over his misuse of campaign funds, according to a court filing. There is no connection between Jackson’s payment and his new projected release date, according to the Bureau of Prisons. “Financial obligations and release dates are unrelated,” said prisons spokesman Chris Burke.

Languishing in Omdurman Federal Women’s Prison in Khartoum, Sudan, Dr. Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag and her 20 month-old son, Martin Wani, await their fate. While the liberal selfies of the world move on with their political correctness, social networking, and mindless entertainment, three fragile lives are about to be extinguished for the unthinkable high crimes of being Christian. And where, pray tell, are Barack and Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, liberal Dreamers and all the other Muslim apologists in this country? Aside from the U.S. government expressing that it is “deeply disturbed,” our quasi leadership’s silence is absolutely deafening....

The numbers are arresting. If Americans under correctional supervision counted as a city of their own, they would form the largest city in the United States after New York. The number of people in prison, on parole or on probation, 6.9 million Americans, exceeds the populations of the second- and third-largest cities, Los Angeles and Chicago, combined. Or the size of the next four -- Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix and San Antonio -- put together. Thirty-eight U.S. states are home to fewer people than live under the corrections system in this country. There are about as many people behind bars as...

Doug Ross at Director Blue has done the math of the costs of Jeb Bush’s Acts of Love and the convict side alone is pretty expensive. A little research led me to a fairly startling number. In 2012 alone, it was estimated that 350,000 illegal aliens are imprisoned in the United States, having been convicted of major crimes.I repeat: 350,000 illegal aliens are residing in our prisons. And how much does each illegal cost the taxpayer? The New York Times states that “the annual average taxpayer cost in these states was $31,286 per inmate.”The total cost to the American taxpayer? $11...

A Sacramento man accused of beating, choking and hanging his pet dogs has been sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison. A jury in March convicted Robert Lee Brian, 49, of three counts of felony animal cruelty, one count of assault and one count of criminal threat. He was sentenced Friday by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White. Brian was arrested Oct. 7, 2013, for assaulting and threatening to shoot a female roommate after an early morning argument. After his arrest, Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation received multiple complaints regarding the condition of Brian’s male pit bull...

Texas Republican Rep. Lamar Smith reacted harshly to a new report detailing the crimes committed by 36,007 criminal immigrants that Immigration and Customs Enforcement released last year. “This would be considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the President and perpetrated by our own immigration officials. These criminal immigrants should have been deported to ensure that they could never commit crimes on U.S. soil. But instead, ICE officials chose not to detain them and instead released them back onto American streets,” Smith said in a statement Monday.

Every two years I come to the Congress, just like my good friend, Mr. Labrador, we put up our hands to swear to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this country. It is the law.” That’s what Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings told Anderson Cooper last October. What was he talking about you may wonder. Was it the disastrous Fast and Furious scandal and the cover-up that followed? No, Rep. Cummings dismissed questions over the DOJ Attorney General Eric Hold’s role in the affair as “an...

Stephanie Wilson was reaching for a receipt inside a paper shopping bag from Saks Fifth Avenue when she found a letter pleading, "HELP HELP HELP." The message, written in blue ink on white lined paper, appeared to be a desperate cry from a man who said he made the bag while being unfairly held in a Chinese prison factory more than 7,000 miles away. "We are ill-treated and work like slaves for 13 hours every day producing these bags in bulk in the prison factory," continued the letter, which was tucked into the bottom of the bag. It ended, "Thanks...

ANGOLA, La. – They're often thrown like rag dolls or risk being gored by bucking bulls and broncos. But in those few seconds in the spotlight of the rodeo, they are part of the world again. Some of Louisiana's most violent criminals are the stars of the Angola Prison Rodeo, the nation's longest-running prison rodeo that this year celebrates 50 years. The event has grown from a small "fun" event for prisoners into big business, with proceeds going into the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund for inmate education and recreational supplies.

Attorney General Eric Holder criticized drug sentences doled out under “the old regime” in a video Monday announcing the Obama administration’s “Clemency Project 2014.” “In 2010, President Obama signed the Fair Sentencing Act reducing unfair disparities in sentences imposed on people for offenses involving different forms of cocaine. But there’s still too many people in federal prison who were sentenced under the old regime and who, as a result, will have to spend far more time in prison than they would if sentenced today for exactly the same crime. This is simply not right,” Holder says in the video....
