<p>Supporters of state Sen. Robert J. Martin, R-Morris Plains, recognized the contentiousness of his race against challenger Jay Webber and funneled more than $27,000 to the incumbent in the week leading up to Tuesday's primary election.</p>
<p>By the time polls had closed, Martin - a member of the Legislature since January 1985 - had bested Webber by 1,800 votes for a 57 percent to 43 percent margin of victory.</p>
