4th Update, Saturday AM after midnight post: Refresh for updates Incredibles 2 isn’t just a sequel to an animated film, it’s a sequel to an A+ four-quad movie and it’s acting like the latter pulling in everyone, largely adults with general audiences accounting for 57% of the audience. Note that parents are only repping 12% of the crowd per PostTrak with 31% kids. In the middle of the night we were spotting that Incredibles 2 was clicking to $175.3M and there’s a very good shot this all-audience pic is flying to $180M+. That figure alone is close to 70% of...

Disney and Pixar's The Incredibles 2 is tracking for a huge box-office debut of $140 million-plus in North America. If so, that would make the best domestic start ever for an animated movie, exceeding the $135 million launch of fellow Pixar film Finding Dory. The film opens in theaters on June 15, nearly 14 years after The Incredibles hit the big screen and turned into an instant classic. Incredibles 2 was directed by Brad Bird, who also wrote and helmed the first film. Along with Bird, Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Samuel L. Jackson and John Ratzenberger reprise...

The Incredibles may be a squad of superheroes, but the highly-anticipated (and long-awaited) sequel to the 2004 animated movie is celebrating one specific heroine. Elastigirl is running things this time around, and it's just one of many reasons to get hyped for this sure-to-be-epic superhero flick. The latest trailer for The Incredibles 2 shows the pitfalls of having a family with incredible powers — especially when only one of them is asked to save the world. The drama in the sequel comes about when mom Helen Parr, a.k.a. Elastigirl, is tasked with bringing superheroes back into the forefront of...

One longtime Pixar employee says Lasseter was known for "grabbing, kissing, making comments about physical attributes." Rashida Jones is still credited as a writer on Toy Story 4, the next installment in the beloved franchise. But, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter, the actress and her writing partner at the time, Will McCormack, left the project early on after John Lasseter, the acclaimed head of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation, made an unwanted advance. Jones and McCormack did not respond to repeated requests for comment. Disney declined to comment on the alleged incident though a studio source said the departure was...

'Moana' won't have any trouble beating 'Fantastic Beasts,' while returns for 'Allied,' starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, and Billy Bob Thornton's 'Bad Santa 2' are mixed so far. Disney's homegrown animated family film Moana continued to dominate at the Thanksgiving box office, grossing $10 million for a five-day holiday debut of $85 million $91 million, according to early estimates.

Pixar just released its 13th number one opening movie in a row, Brave . Most people associate Pixar with blockbuster animations. Most people don’t realize, however, that two of the secrets behind Pixar’s success are capitalism and clean fun. Capitalism Capitalism is the foundation that allows Pixar films to come into existence. Without a free market—where small film studios can compete with global giants—we would still be watching ho-hum Disney films. Because of capitalism, Pixar (a startup with loads of talent) was able to compete with Disney (a giant resting on its laurels) as an equal. Steve Jobs (the late...

Merida, the heroine of Pixar's Brave, doesn't want to marry. Not now, she repeatedly tells her mother, Queen Elinor, and perhaps not ever. Faced with the prospect of being forced to wed one of a trio of loutish suitors, she runs away from home in search of some way to change the "fate" she was born into. That's the radical thing about Brave: Merida is a Disney princess who doesn't want a prince. She also happens to be a tomboy, a tough and sporty archer who would rather be riding her horse than wearing a dress. On Sunday, Entertainment Weekly's...

-snip- “John Carter,” a big-budget science fiction epic from Walt Disney Studios that opened Friday and flopped over the weekend. Disney spent lavishly (some say foolishly) on the movie in large part to keep one of its most important creative talents happy: Andrew Stanton, the Pixar-based director of “Finding Nemo” and “Wall-E.” “John Carter,” which cost an estimated $350 million to make and market, and was directed by Mr. Stanton, took in about $30.6 million at the North American box office, according to Rentrak, which compiles box-office data. That result is so poor, even when factoring in about $71 million...

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Two self-described Disney "fanatics" have purchased a house in Utah modeled after the colorful home featured in the animated movie "Up." Discovering the house in the Salt Lake City suburb of Herriman, Utah, was a dream come true for Clinton and Lynette Hamblin of Petaluma, Calif. The couple had been looking for a house with some of the same flourishes as the one in the movie, such as a multi-colored exterior or a blue kitchen with retro appliances. They initially looked in California until they saw news reports about the house in Utah that included...

Looking for a good family-friendly flick this weekend? You might be best-advised to steer clear of Cars 2. (See what I did there?) For one thing, it's gotten pretty poor reviews (37% on Rotten Tomatoes). But the director came out and said he explicitly decided to make "big oil" the bad guy.

I, like most everyone, loves Pixar movies. That said, the first Cars movie may be my least favorite. The movie, loosely based on the old Michael J. Fox movie Doc Hollywood, is o.k., and the imagery is fantastic, but it doesn't have the heart and emotion of the great Pixar movies like Toy Story, Wall-E, or Finding Nemo. That said, it is also the Pixar movie I have seen the most times. The reason is obvious: it is by far my 5 year old son's favorite movie (well, until he discovered Star Wars this year). He has watched the movie...

Pixar Animation mastermind John Lasseter says the company has no environmental agenda, but with "Cars 2," the blockbuster outfit does tap into today's eco-mindedness with a plot driven by oil vs. a cleaner alternative. Debuting in U.S. theaters Friday, "Cars 2" sends race car Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) on a World Grand Prix circuit whose organizer fuels the vehicles with a green alternative called Allinol, prompting the bad guys to try to discredit the new power supply that threatens traditional gasoline.

We're gonna have Vikings and Dragons from now through next Christmas as the merchandisers rush to cash in on Pixar's latest offering: "How to Train Your Dragon". It's a great movie, if formulaic. Kids from four to fourteen will love it, as will their adult companions for its action, 3-D effects and colorful characters. A review and a few complaints. ”How To Train Your Dragon”-3D and Endless Merchandising It’s not that I have any problem with merchandising a movie. I’ve long ago become accustomed to such as little toys associated with a movie being included as part of McDonald’s Happy...

Colby Curtin got her final wish. The 10-year-old girl desperately wanted to see the new Disney-Pixar movie, "Up." But the cancer-stricken girl was too sick to go to a theater.
