Finally! We have common sense in our public schools, at least in one Virginia school district anyway. After two boy were suspended for “using pencils like guns“, the Suffolk School Board decided to review their current weapons policy, which was a very strict zero tolerance policy which left no room for interpretation. According to 10News.com, Under the revised policy, school administrators can look at factors such as intentions of harm and whether the object is listed as a weapon to determine the punishment. Ordinary objects will not be considered weapons A local television station reports that school board members voted...

Three environmental groups sued the Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday to force it to prevent lead poisoning of wildlife from spent ammunition and lost fishing tackle. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court by the Center for Biological Diversity, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the hunters group Project Gutpile. It comes after the EPA denied their petition to ban lead ammunition and lead fishing tackle, which the groups say kills 10 million to 20 million birds and other animals a year by lead poisoning. "The EPA has the ability to protect America's wildlife from ongoing preventable lead poisoning,...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency denied on Thursday a petition by several environmental groups to ban lead in fishing tackle, two months after rejecting the groups' attempt to ban it in hunting ammunition. The EPA said that the petition did not demonstrate that a ban on lead in fishing tackle was necessary to protect against unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment, as required by the Toxic Substances Control Act. In a letter to the American Bird Conservancy, one of the groups that filed the petition, EPA Assistant Administrator Stephen A. Owens said that a number...

Let the games begin: "Missourians have a clear choice in this election. If they want a rubberstamp for the liberal policies of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama, they should support Robin Carnahan. But if they want someone who will fight for Missouri families and jobs, they ought to support Roy Blunt."

The President blasts Republicans in the Senate who are blocking unemployment insurance and small business tax breaks to create jobs, even as they push for permanent, massive tax cuts for the richest Americans. "But again and again, a partisan minority in the Senate said “no,” and used procedural tactics to block a simple, up-or-down vote. Think about what these stalling tactics mean for the millions of Americans who’ve lost their jobs since the recession began. Over the past several weeks, more than two million of them have seen their unemployment insurance expire. For many, it was the only way to...

Remember when the talk about financial reform was centered around Ron Paul's bill to audit the Federal Reserve? As I recall, somewhere around 300 members of Congress were on board with that. Ironically, guess what's missing from Obama's financial regulatory reform bill that just passed? Fed Gets More Power, Responsibility After fending off most challenges to its independence and winning new powers to oversee big financial firms, the Federal Reserve has emerged from a bruising debate on the overhaul of U.S. financial rules as perhaps the pre-eminent regulator in the sector. But that could only bring it added blame if...

The NAACP this week past a resolution stating that the Tea Party (in its diverse and many iterations) are "harboring racist elements that are a threat to our democracy." What a ridiculous joke this is. Racism in the current political climate has been now relegated to a political tool, and nothing more. I would compare it to anyone's comparison of someone to Hitler and Stalin (and yes, I am referring to the idiotic billboard in Iowa). Let us be clear. There is NO occasion, short of genocide, when you should compare anyone to Adolph Hitler. Period. End of story. And...

The search for the perfect conservative platform started the day Barack Obama won the Presidency in November 2008. And so far, I have not been sold. Oh, sure, there are stable of adequate candidates. But tell me, honestly, has any 'wowed' you yet? I think not. And each platform has its own liabilities. But the best out there may be Paul Ryan's Roadmap for America. An overview of the plan and its legislative language can be read here. And unlike many of Ryan's detractors, Ryan has a complete CBO analysis which can be read here. Now, look. I am a...

Despite California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger plunging job approval ratings and waning biceps, he still had time for a ho-hum visit with President Medvedev at Cisco HQ in San Jose on June 23rd. The President met with Cisco CEO John Chambers and members of the Cisco executive team over TelePresence and got to make a video (wink, wink). Following this discussion, Chambers and Viktor Vekselberg signed an MoU to confirm Cisco's commitment to the Skolkovo project. Arnold was very quiet so I don’t think he will be back!...
