As Jazz Shaw predicted, the national media has suddenly begun doing a lot of homework on Herman Cain now that he’s riding high in the polls, and the first one to take a crack at the new Not-Romney is NBC’s Chuck Todd. Todd challenges Cain on a 2005 column he wrote that dismissed concerns of a “bad economy” and a housing bubble, the latter of which at least turned out to be all too true. Cain admits that he didn’t see it coming, which prompts the obvious follow-up question from Todd about just how good his economic instincts actually are....

We have a problem when our supposed populist non politician front runner is a former Federal Reserve chairman. Herman Cain does have experience in the private sector, but a good portion of that private sector experience is working for the private corporation-The Federal Reserve. Herman Cain believes that individual citizens can just call up the private corporation known as The Federal Reserve and ask them how they operate? Who does he think we are? You cannot even step foot on the property of the Private Reserve. You can call the human relations department at the Federal Reserve and they will...
  • Rick Perry: Know-Nothing Neoconservativism Reincarnated?

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has leapt to the top in the Republican presidential race. His domestic policy looks standard-issue conservative. But his foreign policy veers neoconservative—even after George W. Bush and Barack Obama together launched two full-scale wars, one “kinetic military action,” and two deadly drone-campaigns. With the economy stuck in the doldrums, President Obama faces a potentially difficult reelection fight. However, it will take someone to beat him, and so far the leading Republicans do not impress. In a party that tends to practice political primogeniture, Mitt Romney was early anointed the front-runner. Yet dissatisfied GOP voters rushed to...
  • Palin, Sounding Like Ron Paul, Takes on the Fed

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fired a shot at the Federal Reserve in her coming-out speech in Hong Kong today, blaming the central bank for the current crisis and disagreeing with the idea that the Fed should have a greater role in preventing the next crisis. It was an echo of fellow Republican and Texas congressman Ron Paul, who has led the charge in Congress to perform an audit of the Federal Reserve with an eye to eventually eliminating it. “How can we discuss reform without addressing the government policies at the root of the problems? The root of the...
