  • Socialism vs. Corporatism (Ron Paul)

Lately many have characterized this administration as socialist, or having strong socialist leanings. I differ with this characterization. This is not to say Mr. Obama believes in free-markets by any means. On the contrary, he has done and said much that demonstrates his fundamental misunderstanding and hostility towards the truly free market. But a closer, honest examination of his policies and actions in office reveals that, much like the previous administration, he is very much a corporatist. This in many ways can be more insidious and worse than being an outright socialist. Socialism is a system where the government directly...
  • Rand Paul's top goal is to cut federal spending

LOUISVILLE — Rand Paul sounds nothing like any major candidate for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky ever has, let alone a front-runner for the Republican nomination. He complains as much about actions of those in his own party as he does about Democrats. He has said he doesn't need the Republican power structure to win the party's May 18 primary or the November election to replace U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning. And he rarely mentions Kentucky in stump speeches. Instead, he sticks to his big-picture message of slashing spending, constraining federal powers and imposing term limits on members of Congress. And...

Ron Paul has been brought to prominence by his long-standing opposition to the nation's monetary system and the Federal Reserve Board that prints money and controls its supply. Here are some of Rep. Ron Paul's most recent legislative battles. • Federal Reserve: Wants to remove the veil of secrecy over the board controlling the nation's money supply. • Government regulation: Wants Congress to sign off on any federal rule that imposes costs of $5,000 on an individual or $10,000 on a business. • Congressional pay: Seeks to end automatic annual cost-of-living pay increases for lawmakers. • Foreign policy: Opposes the...

"…The more terrifying the occasion for defense, the closer will become the organization and the more coercive the influence upon each member of the herd. War sends the current of purpose and activity flowing down to the lowest level of the herd, and to its most remote branches. All the activities of society are linked together as fast as possible to this central purpose of making a military offensive or a military defense, and the State becomes what in peacetimes it has vainly struggled to become—the inexorable arbiter and determinant of men’s business and attitudes and opinions…" -Randolph Bourne Dear...

Dang, this interview is good! The Pauls's are interviwed together on CNN and discuss their desire to fix the gridlock in Washington. They are not dummies by any stretch of the imagination. Ron: "The mechanism is broken because it's financially broke.....once the government gets as much debt as we have, the liquidation of debt always happens, you can't avoid it.....and it will be liquidated by paying back money that doesn't have as much value". Rand: "The voters are asking how are we going to spend a trillion dollars on healthcare and not add anything to the debt?....Show me the government...

I have a question for the denizens of Free Republic. Why do so many conservatives consider libertarians to be as bad as liberals? Yes, I realize that libertarians tend to be unrealistically isolationist and don't support the conservative social agenda, but it would seem that we would be natural allies based upon economic policy. A country where conservatives and libertarians were the two dominant parties wouldn't be a bad thing.

During her speech to the first ever National Tea Party Convention in Nashville on Saturday, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin discouraged the very idea of a national organization, urging the movement to stay leaderless and decentralized. This was the most important and valuable part of Palin’s speech. As for the rest of it–Sarah sounded pretty much like the same old Republican Party. Despite the many independents that make up the movement, the tea parties in large part represent a long overdue reexamination of conservative principles. A big-spending Democratic president seems to have awakened grassroots conservatives enough to finally lament the...
  • Why Debra Medina's Candidacy For Texas Governor Should Be Nationalized

Debra Medina against all odds is quickly becoming a viable candidate the implications are enormous. Scott Brown's shocking victory is a mixed blessing for the cause of freedom. On one hand it has put a major roadblock in the path towards Obama Care. On the other hand Scott Brown is a big government Republican. So far there are no signs that true reform is taking place in the GOP. The people in control of the party during the worst two consecutive election cycle defeats in GOP history are still in control of the leadership nationally. This is why a Debra...

Why do so many people love Sarah Palin? Why do so many hate her? I cannot recall a politician in recent memory that has been both so loved and so reviled for no discernible reason. When Palin was announced as John McCain’s running mate on the 2008 Republican presidential ticket many conservatives were intrigued, including me. It was reported that the Alaskan governor had been a member of Pat Buchanan’s “Buchanan Brigades” during the commentator’s presidential bids in 1996 and 2000 and that Palin had ties to the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party. An “America First” states rights’ radical on a...

Texas Congressman Ron Paul is a fiscal watchdog, but he placed more earmarks in the recently passed $410 billion spending bill than any other Republican, inserting $73 million into the measure — which he then voted against. Paul, who sought the Republican presidential nomination last year, acknowledged in an interview with Fox News that the $73 million “might be” going to his Gulf Coast district in Texas for things like the Intracoastal Waterway and the Texas City channel. “The principle of the earmark is our responsibility,” he said. “It’s like a tax credit. And I vote for all tax credits,...

One of the popular post-9/11 sentiments has been the one that holds that Muslims are bent on conquering the world. The notion is that Muslims hate Christianity and Western freedom and values and that such hatred is rooted in the Koran and stretches back centuries. Thus, the United States has been drawn, reluctantly, into a war against Muslims. That’s why U.S. forces are in Iraq and Afghanistan, the argument goes — to defend our freedoms by killing Muslims over there before they get over here and kill us. I sometimes wonder whether the people who have this mindset have reflected...

Now on Fox, a spokesman for a group called "The Resistance." They are sending personal letters to our troops in Iraq blaming the U.S. for 9-11 and calling the troops stupid murderers who should desert the military. The spokesman is having a quiet tantrum as he curses the U.S. and demands we pull out of the Middle East. Eye-opening.
