“Has Republican Resistance to Trump Collapsed?” The familiar question, offered up many times and in many variations since 2016, appeared in The New York Times. This time, it served as the headline for an opinion piece by GOP strategist (and Trump critic) Liz Mair. Writing from “inside the belly of the beast,” she stated that President Donald Trump is the king of all he surveys, pointing out that “the NeverTrump movement has disintegrated” and that the president can boast of a “near 90 percent approval rating among Republicans.” It’s true, Republicans love Trump. They love him as much or more...

I just ran this little spreadsheet math to see if it would make me feel better. In today’s RCP table ABC News/Washington Post through Sunday and Pew Research through Saturday are outliers giving Obama +3. By clicking on the name of the ABC/WashPo line and scrolling to the bottom you will see that they used 35% Dems, 29% Republicans and 32% Independents. Here are some of my assumptions – 90% of Dims vote Øbama while 90% of Republicans vote Romney. In exhibit A I have 52.5% of Is voting Romney and 47.5% voting Øbama. (This Independent number is well within...

If Democrats really want to address the issue of “Toxic Politics,” a great place to start would be with what Progressives call the “arrestables.” What are arrestables and how do they work? What they are is fairly self-explanatory: arrestables are protesters who are predetermined to be arrested. Who they are is where it really gets interesting. They are a mix of professional protesters and anarchists, organized largely (but not exclusively) through a working relationship between community organizers like Lisa Fithian of RANT, Susie Benjamin and Jodie Evans of CodePink (major Obama fundraisers), and Bernadine Dohrn of the Weather Underground Terrorist...
  • CA: Republicans say election is about party's future, not just reform

LOS OLIVOS, Calif. (AP) - In this picturesque region outside Santa Barbara, most of the local chatter centers on the nearby Michael Jackson trial and the continuing tourist boom wrought by the hit wine movie "Sideways." But neither pinot noir nor the "King of Pop" were on the agenda here this weekend at a conference of Republican activists, where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's call for a special election was Topic A. Many attendees characterized the likely election as the governor's latest move to restore political sanity to California. But there was little doubt that they also view the high-stakes showdown as...

The most striking difference between our nation’s two largest political parties lies in focus, only one looks forward. We confront obvious questions constantly concerning improved education, economy, energy, health, defense… as well as religious and constitutional rights. How long has the education budget been increasing and what has it produced? If the voucher system can improve results for a lesser cost why the roadblocks? How obscure are the professor Churchills? Consider how education is taught and ask how many students today realize the principles upon which our country was founded, religion and government included. The DOW, during a time of...

The incoming executive director for the nation's third-largest political party is issuing a bold appeal to the American electorate: Help us fire the government. "There are just two things standing in between the American people and their freedom: Democrats, and Republicans," says Joe Seehusen, incoming head of the Washington, DC-based party. "Government at all levels has become too big and too bossy, and it's time to cut it down to size." Seehusen, 50, comes to the party with a background in business, media, and politics, and ran for U.S. Congress in 2000 from Iowa's Third District. He plans to put...
