You insult our country, attack our NHS, embarrass our Queen, undermine our ‘special relationship’, humiliate our PM...and then smugly pose in Winston Churchill’s armchair. Donald Trump sparks fury posing arrogantly in an armchair used by heroic wartime leader Winston Churchill. Critics slammed Trump for a string of diplomatic blunders and said he wasn’t fit to sit there.

Donald Trump continues to bring comic relief and mean-spirited bombast to the Republican campaign trail. But while Trump is a continuing spectacle, he also makes (a tiny bit) more sense than his rivals when he indicts U.S. trade policies or scorns the influence of big money that turns politicians into puppets. Nevertheless Trump, despite his current lead in the polls, isn’t likely to be the Republican presidential nominee. William Galston, the Wall Street Journal’s designated Democratic pundit, last week suggested that there were five “plausible” Republican candidates — Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Tex.), Govs. Scott Walker (Wis.)...

We rightly criticise Islam, but in doing so we must not forget the barbarism of some other non-Christian religions.

While, after the coming of Jesus, in the parts of the world that adopted Christianity animal sacrifices have disappeared, they are still practised elsewhere to this day.

“What do women want?” A question for the ages, challenging humanity’s sagest philosophers. On Monday night, “Jeopardy!” attempted to answer — er, question — it with a category that left viewers and women’s rights activists flabbergasted and disappointed. The compilation of clues, titled “What Women Want,” included prompts such as, “A few moments of quiet to do this, especially the one edited by Will Shortz in The New York Times.”

WASHINGTON — How dare President Barack Obama brush back the Supreme Court like that? Has this former constitutional law instructor no respect for our venerable system of checks and balances? Nah. And why should he? This court, cosseted behind white marble pillars, out of reach of TV, accountable to no one once they give the last word, is well on its way to becoming the one of the most divisive in modern U.S. history. It has squandered even the semi-illusion that it is the unbiased, honest guardian of the Constitution. It is run by hacks dressed up in black robes....

Is there any possibility of repeating a period in history when the nation's jobless rate reached 25 percent and economic output fell by one-third, as it did during the Depression? "Zero, just zero," said Kenneth Rogoff, a Harvard University economics professor. "Ten percent, that could happen. If we got to 10 percent, that would be pretty spectacular for the U.S. But it would take a lot of mistakes (by Congress) for a long time . . . if Congress takes the ball and it fumbles."

April 30, 2007 issue - The three students from Wilberforce University, near Xenia, Ohio, had a tremendous fondness for 9-millimeter pistols. They bought them as many as 25 at a time from the accommodating owner of the Hole in the Wall Gun Shop, James Dillard. As required by Ohio law, the buyers duly attested that the guns were for their personal use, which was good enough for Dillard. In fact, according to federal prosecutors, the pistols were passed to a gunrunner who resold them to street gangs. Seventy-six 9mm semiautomatics were sold to just one gang, the Double II Bloods...

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

My wife and I heard this "song" played on Seattle radio on Saturday and I just had to find out if Jay Leno really allowed this "bleep" on his show. When I searched Google, I found this film of it. It's apparently true. Did anyone see this on Leno? If so, he needs to be "outed"

I generally like the Republicans that Sean Hannity has on his show, but George Will really got on my nerves when he defended keeping the ability to filibuster judges based solely on partisan politics. His first statement that got me going was to the effect of, "Sean, we don't want to place limits on what requires a supremajority in the Senate. You would have it that anything not allowed by the Constitution is forbidden. Such limits are antithetical to a free society". HELLO?!!! Mr. Will, please READ the Constitution before you ever dare to utter another idiotic statement like this....

A few days ago, the esteeemed host and founder of this foremerly great website invited me to do the following: "654. To: JohnGaltfla (#367) Oh, it's much better to go out in a blaze of glory. Martyrdom, 72 virgins, plaque on the "Great Ones" wall of fame and all that rot. jimrobfr posted on 2004-03-19 03:29:45 ET" Obviously, he was concerned that some of his better non-bot posters had abandoned FR for greener fields where our financial and intellectual contributions would be appreciated. It was amusing to watch former FReepers belittle, banter and blast JimRob in various forms. I was...
