Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday joined a growing list of out-of-state political figures who have endorsed Portland pediatric neurosurgeon Monica Wehby in her race for the Republican Senate nomination. . . Firefighters rescued two ducklings from an Oregon City storm drain Friday, officials said. A couple near Beavercreek Road and Highway 213 saw the ducklings struggling to follow their mother up a curb when they fell into the drain, said Jed Wachlin of Clackamas Fire District No. 1. The couple called the non-emergency line and a fire engine from Station 16 was dispatched about 9:30 a.m. Firefighters quickly found the ducklings and pulled them out safely, using "the simple compassion and care located in every Clackamas tool box," Wachlin said.
