Wilson joins Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.; Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.; and Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., in boycotting the event..."Rather than listening to another destructive, divisive speech by Trump, I will not attend this year’s annual address to Congress," Blumenauer said in a statement. "Instead, like I did during his inauguration, I'll be working at home listening to Oregonians about what they think about the State of the Union."

Defense lawyers for the FBI agent accused of lying about firing shots at the truck of Oregon standoff spokesman Robert "LaVoy" Finicum are requesting dismissal of the case arguing it's based on a faulty computer animation of the shooting and not witnesses, video or ballistics. In a motion filed in federal court Friday, lawyers for FBI Agent W. Joseph Astarita contend the government's computer animation is unreliable. "The govermment's case rests entirely on a computer animation manufactured by a daisy chain of so-called experts nearly two years after the underlying shooting incident," defense lawyer David Angeli wrote in his motion....

Marcus Mumford, the lawyer who represented Ammon Bundy in the Oregon standoff trial, agreed Monday to no longer handle federal cases in the state. Bundy and six co-defendants were acquitted in October 2016 of charges stemming from the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a federal bird sanctuary in southeastern Oregon. After the surprising verdict, U.S. marshals tackled Mumford and shocked him with a stun gun as he argued with a judge over whether Bundy should continue to be detained. Mumford was charged with failing to follow a federal officer’s orders and failing to stop resisting arrest. The...

Most Americans were probably drop-jawed to learn there was a state in the union where government overseers prohibited the people from pumping their own gas. The ultra-progressive and ever-controlling Oregon Legislature had banned this otherwise normal behavior for more than 50 years, ostensibly to provide some form of protection for its residents. This is the practical reality of the general principle that government coddling creates entitlement, pampered residents with fewer freedoms, and reduced abilities to live independently. Oregon has been telling its residents for generations they are incapable of pumping their own gas, and now there are generations of Oregonians...

The Great State of Oregon is not at DEFCON ONE. Nor are Beaver State residents gnashing their teeth — or gnawing down their neighbors’ small backyard trees — over a new law that went into effect last week. Nonetheless, numerous news outfits have proclaimed: “People in Oregon are freaking out about the thought of pumping their own gas under a new law.” “A brand new law went into effect . . . for the Beaver State. And it’s sending shock waves across all 98,000-plus square miles and all 4 million residents as we speak.” “Some Oregonians may have to pump...

An Oregon Democrat has become the first member of Congress to announce a boycott of the State of the Union address. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, who represents much of Portland and its eastern suburbs, announced he will not attend the presidential tradition on January 30, Pete Hegseth reported. Blumenauer said on Twitter that he would instead be "working at home listening to Oregonians about what they think about the State of the Union [address]." He warned that the speech would be another example of President Donald Trump's "destructive, divisive" dialogue.

Shelton shopkeeper Janice Danker said she’s receiving death threats. The reason? She accepted an antique German Nazi flag on consignment and hung it near a collection of World War II items in her store. A few days ago, someone took a photo of the flag at her shop, Games and Needful Things, and posted it on Facebook. Danker said the phone at her antique and secondhand store has been ringing nonstop ever since, and she’s received hundreds of phone calls, emails and social media messages. Many of the people are angry that a Nazi flag was displayed in and being...

U.S. Attorney Billy Williams on Friday said he's troubled by the overproduction of marijuana in Oregon and the black market exportation of the crop to other states, though he declined to detail how his office will carry out a new federal directive stripping legal protections for marijuana businesses. In his first public comments since Thursday's announcement by the U.S. Department of Justice, Williams told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he's awaiting additional guidance from federal officials. He offered a cautious response, saying he doesn't "believe in overreacting."' "I want to be methodical and thoughtful about what we do here in the District...

Of all the new laws going into effect Monday (legal cannabis in California, higher minimum wages in several states, and many more), you may be surprised about which one drew the most backlash online. It appears to be Oregon House Bill 2482, which allows people who live in counties with 40,000 residents or less to pump their own gas. Oregonians aired their frustrations on Facebook over the new law. And just about everyone else in the country made fun of them. New California laws going into effect in 2018 New era opens in California with first sales of recreational marijuana...

An antifa agitator who had been spouting off about virtues of communism while counter-protesting a pro-Trump “March For Jesus” in Portland, Oregon, was run over by a small pickup truck. The unidentified, uhh, person (gender unclear) apparently had some kind of weapon, as you can hear some of the pro Trump command the person (?) to get rid of their weapon. The communist then bolts across the Hawthorne bridge, only to be HIT SQUARE ON by a pickup truck, who had just emerged beyond the trusses of the bridge, and was likely unable to see the person (?) running through...

Three of President Trump's female accusers spoke with NBC's Megyn Kelly Monday about their experiences, all claiming he took advantage of them sexually. Former beauty pageant contestant Samntha Holvey alleged that Trump made her feel like "a piece of meat," Rachel Crooks, a former receptionist, claimed he forcibly kissed her, and Jessica Leeds, a traveling saleswoman, says he groped and kissed her on an airplane. The White House has dismissed them as "false claims," as Kelly reiterated on her show. These women's stories, however, were enough to convince Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) that the president needs to step down "immediately." Should...

While much of the country’s attention was focused on the astonishing acquittal of Kate Steinle’s killer in San Francisco, another illegal immigrant accused of horrendous crimes was being held accountable for them farther up the coast in Portland, Oregon. According to the New York Post, a Mexican national with a criminal record and series of prior deportations and re-entries named Sergio Jose Martinez was sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts including assault, burglary, kidnapping, sexual abuse, sodomy, and rape. An increase in federal taxes on fuel would significantly help fund repairs for highway infrastructure along Interstate 95 in Newark, N.J., Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D) said amid Congress’ consideration of tax reform legislation. “Improving I-95 will boost the economy by shortening commutes, making cargo transport more efficient and improving highway safety,” Payne said Nov. 30, adding the I-95 stretch, or the Turnpike as it is known in the state, has been underfunded due to deficits in the Highway Trust Fund over the years. The intricate network of ports, railways, highways and an international airport in the state’s largest city...

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke recommended Tuesday that President Trump shrink two more national monuments and change how six others are managed, expanding the administration’s effort to roll back what it sees as excessive use of presidential authority to protect public lands. Zinke, a day after Trump signed proclamations reducing the size of two Utah national monuments, urged the president to cut Nevada’s Gold Butte and Oregon’s Cascade-Siskiyou.

Columbia Sportswear may be the next business to flee downtown Portland after a series of frightening encounters with the city's homeless population, including car break-ins, human waste dumped by the office's front door and threats to its employees. In an op-ed piece published earlier this month by The Oregonian, Columbia Sportswear President and CEO Tim Boyle said he is concerned he made a mistake when he opened a headquarters for the company’s Sorel footwear brand downtown, calling the situation "outrageous and unacceptable." "In fact, I am so concerned about the safety of our employees at the Sorel headquarters that we...
