Asheville, N.C. — God and country are the theme of battling billboards sprouting up across North Carolina. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that billboards with the message "one nation, under God" are going up across the state. They're a response to billboards placed in six North Carolina cities by the North Carolina Secular Association. Those signs with the message "one nation indivisible" drop the words "under God," which were added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954. BAKERSFIELD - A trustee in the Kern High School District wants to tack up posters bearing the motto "In God We Trust" in all of the district's classrooms. Trustee Chad Vegas, a pastor who founded the Bakersfield Christian church Sovereign Grace, said the posters were intended to inspire patriotism, not to promote religious beliefs.
