WASHINGTON — Republican Troy Balderson further expanded his slim lead after all votes were counted in Delaware and Muskingum counties, and Democrat Danny O’Connor is not close enough yet to force a recount in the hotly contested Aug. 7 special election to finish out the term of Rep. Pat Tiberi. Balderson, a Zanesville Republican who serves in the state Senate, held a narrow lead over the Franklin County recorder on election night, but the seven counties in the 12th Congressional District were still counting provisional and absentee ballots early this week. Two, Delaware and Muskingum, now have certified their final...

Voters in Ohio's 12th Congressional District appear to have narrowly elected Republican Troy Balderson in yesterday's special election, thwarting Democrats' hopes to flip another GOP-held seat ahead of the midterm elections. Â The race came down to the wire, but the incumbent party ultimately prevailed. Â There's a small chance that provisional ballots could trigger a recount, and that absentee ballots could shift votes, but left-leaning elections guru Dave Wasserman looks at the math and effectively calls the contest over, discerning that defeated Democrat Danny O'Connor would "need a miracle" to reverse the outcome. Â For all intents and purposes, and barring major...

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) on Sunday suggested that President Donald Trump appeared at a campaign rally in his state on Saturday without a direct invitation from the House candidate he came to tout. Kasich, speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” said he asked state Sen. Troy Balderson, the Republican candidate for a U.S. House seat in a Tuesday special election, point blank why he invited Trump to campaign for him at his event in Delaware County. “I asked him the other day, ‘Why are you bringing Trump in,’ said Kasich, who has been one of the GOP’s harshest critics of...

President Trump on Saturday campaigned in Ohio for Republican state Sen. Troy Balderson ahead of a special House election next week, saying the Democratic opponent is controlled by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and favors open borders. Running against the Trump-backed candidate is Democrat Danny O’Connor. Earlier Saturday, the president described O'Connor in a tweet as “a puppet” for Pelosi, “weak on Crime, Borders & your 2nd Amendment,” with a goal of raising taxes. Before welcoming Balderson onstage, Trump described him as “really smart” and “a really hard worker” who would “fight for Ohio.” Balderson promised to “fight alongside” the...

Things have turned negative in OH-15, the battle of Steve Stivers, an Iraq war veteran, against socialist Mary Jo Kilroy, running as a Democrat. Kilroy attacked Stivers for once working as a lobbyist for Bank One. Stivers responded that Kilroy ran a socialist newspaper. The Kilroy campaign shot back, claiming that Kilroy won an award for "excellent journalism" and that Stivers is lying about Kilroy's time at the Free Press, the socialist newspaper Kilroy worked at. But, ladies and gentlemen, I have found something far more damning about Mary Jo Kilroy. snip...
